Jordan Jenkins

Texans Postgame Presser

Dolphins - 17, Texans - 9

Q. How do you feel about the way the defense played today?

JORDAN JENKINS: We didn't get the win, but proud of the way some of the guys fought. We still had a little miscues throughout the game that have to be fixed if we want to be a better defense. But it was a good step forward.

Q. Would you say this was your most impactful game?

JORDAN JENKINS: Could definitely agree with that. I had a different mentality for this game. Had stuff going on with my family and I just wanted to put it all on the line for them.

Q. What was the mood in the locker room after this?

JORDAN JENKINS: You know, emotions definitely were -- it hurts losing a close game like that. We were in it until the end. We had some great momentum shifts throughout the game.

But it was down. But we came together and said we got two options. You either fold and just go out there with the mindset you're going to lose every game, or you make the option, you do a reality check, look at yourself in the mirror and figure out what you've got to do to get better.

If you can't fight for yourself, fight for the man beside you. Because a lot of people got stuff going on back home, and you can't be the one guy bringing it right now. If you can't do it for yourself do it for everyone else fighting for their families to get fed.

Q. Did you all make adjustments when you found out Brissett was going to play instead of Tua?

JORDAN JENKINS: Yeah, it sort of changed up some of our calls on defense. Tua, being a left-handed quarterback, kind of a slippery guy, smaller guy.

And then you got Brissett, who has gained a little bit of pounds since the last time I've seen him. He was my host when I took an official at Florida. But he's definitely bigger, and I realize that on the first QB hit, I couldn't get him down.

But we had to make adjustments for that, too. We didn't realize how stout he was. I've got to give Jacoby his credit. He's a little bit harder to take down than you think. And he took all the hits and just made some good throws.

Q. What happened at Astroworld, is that something you guys talked about as a team after you saw it?

JORDAN JENKINS: I think in everyone's position group we all saw videos and talked about it because, I'm from Houston but it was right behind the practice fields and everything.

So we talked about it and thought it was crazy. And we are just glad we didn't have anybody there that could have got caught up in that mess.

Q. They were doing the sound check when you guys were out there Friday. Did you realize that?

JORDAN JENKINS: Yes, because we heard -- some of the guys are saying that, Travis got on the mic or whatever, but we definitely heard some of that. And they had some of the speakers blasting throughout the Friday practice.

Q. Thinking that how many hours later something bad like that can happen.

JORDAN JENKINS: That's sort of another thing I said to the guys. It's like you never know what day's your last. You never know what game's going to be your last, what play will be your last. And me, a guy who's had two shoulder surgeries I lived it. Everything was fine and dandy, then you get the call saying your shoulder is torn, you've got to get surgery. It's a big reality check. And that's something that the guys, we all spoke about.

We gotta go into these last eight games with the mentality that you never know what game's going to be your last, never know what play will be your last. Why not give it your all and keep fighting.

Q. Were you surprised to see the struggles there offensively?

JORDAN JENKINS: It wasn't the return that Tyrod envisioned for himself. But me knowing the guy, me knowing Tyrod -- played against him when he was with the Bills and I was with the Jets for multiple years. He's a competitor and fighter. And he's going to respond with passion and with a whole lot of attitude.

Q. You had a different mentality after going through something with your family. Will you be willing to share that?

JORDAN JENKINS: It was just something my dad was fighting through. And he's known about it for a couple of months now. And he stayed strong. He stayed strong throughout that whole time and never told any of us throughout that whole time.

It was an inspiring thing for me, that he held that in that whole time. And to me it just showed that if he can fight it like that, I can fight even harder on the field.
