Dolphins 70, Broncos 20
SEAN PAYTON: Obviously that was embarrassing and tough to watch. Aside from the kick return there wasn't a lot of positives to take from that game.
We had our opportunities offensively early. Two penalties. You know, take touchdowns off the board and I don't know that -- I think they punted one time. So any questions.
Q. When you have a loss, losing is hard in the NFL, hard on you, but what do you tell the team?
SEAN PAYTON: Look, it would be one thing to say, hey, we're going to get on to the next game, but we have to watch that tape, you know, and so tomorrow will be tough for a lot of players, tough for us too as coaches.
Q. What can you do about the defenses?
SEAN PAYTON: Listen, we knew we were playing a really good offense. We got to look closely at what we were doing. When someone runs the ball up and down the field like those guys did, throw it up and down the field, you know, it's not acceptable.
We can't -- well, we just got to get to the tape.
Next question.
Q. Three weeks in, is this kind of a crisis?
SEAN PAYTON: Listen, the season is full of those type of moments. This one is obviously difficult to be sitting here 0-3 talking to you guys. There will be more.
Q. I know you said it's embarrassing, but this is a historic game.
SEAN PAYTON: I'm aware.
Q. Third time a team has scored 70 points.
SEAN PAYTON: What's the question? What's the question?
Q. How do you feel about it being historically embarrassing?
SEAN PAYTON: I just finished telling you. Next question.
Q. Did you consider on the first possession challenging the Sutton catch, or did you have a good look at it?
SEAN PAYTON: I think we felt like we had a pretty good look at it.
Q. Your perspective when you sit down tonight...
SEAN PAYTON: I always start inwardly and look at, all right, where can I be better, and then you start with the staff, then we go through the tape, and then get on to the meetings with the players.
So these next two days we'll have a lot to look at and discuss. Again, disappointing. I mean, I'm at a loss for words because I've been on the other side of some games like that, and every once in a while in this league you get your butt whipped, but this was more than that.
Q. Does it make you question anything you've done?
SEAN PAYTON: No. Listen, I can't say that today right now sitting here 20 minutes after the game. Anything else?
Q. Looked like you had a respectful talk with Mike...
SEAN PAYTON: I told him he's got a good team and wished him well. Those guys have a good team. Armstead, one of their, was one of our captains I'm close to. Offensive coordinator Frank Smith I hired into NFL. There are number of guys. They're a lot of ties.
Q. Set the record for points kicking the field goal. Did you talk to coach about that?
SEAN PAYTON: No. I don't know that he knew and I didn't know at the time. I never felt at any moment there was that -- we got to stop them at some point. The backups were in there. I didn't feel like -- yeah, it was just more about how his team was playing.
Q. For your players, is the challenge that now to stay...
SEAN PAYTON: Get back up on the mat. Get off the mat and get ready for next week, right? That's the No. 1 thing.
