Dolphins 34, Raiders 19
Q. Going to wade in water, not trying to get you in any issues, but there was a face mask call after they'd assessed a holding, and it looked as if the refs saw it on the big screen. And I'm just curious, not your opinion, but did you get any explanation from the ref on that?
ANTONIO PIERCE: They said they had a long discussion about it, and they ruled it as a face mask.
Q. Antonio, six scores on seven drives or eight drives. Anything that you saw in terms of what was going on on that side of the ball?
ANTONIO PIERCE: Third downs. Third downs. Penalties on critical situations there. We had 230 on penalties where we had the option to get off the field that led to scoring drives as well. And then miscommunication on the deep ball.
Q. The three backup cornerbacks, all your starting cornerbacks were out by the fourth quarter. No excuse or anything like that, but it's tough to stay competitive when you're digging that deep.
ANTONIO PIERCE: Gotta be. There's 48 guys or so to dress and everybody's ready to play. Obviously, when the opportunity comes up, you've got to be ready when your name's called. Injuries have been happening all year. Next man mentality. Everybody wants to play. You get out there. Gotta make the most out of it.
Q. A loss is a loss. No silver lining. The offense looked improved today. Is that what you saw?
ANTONIO PIERCE: Communication was clean. We had the late turnover. Gardner was efficient. Still need to get the running game going. Our front, there wasn't a lot of miscues up there. We had opportunities. Brock had a big day. Gardner got rid of the ball quickly in the passing game. Opportunities there for shots, but we didn't get them down there again. They moved the ball well. Positive stuff is not good enough when you don't score enough to win.
Q. Miscommunication on the last -- what about the first one?
ANTONIO PIERCE: Same thing. Communication. New guys come in, just got to keep talking. Open communication is what we're talking about when you get a younger guy in there or somebody who hasn't got a lot of reps. No excuse. Got to keep communicating. Obviously, we knew there was a motion shift on every play. That's what you got there.
Q. Brock Bowers is doing some historical things for a young player. Tough after a loss. But at the same time, he's pretty much everything as advertised?
ANTONIO PIERCE: We're trying to do everything we can to feature our best player. He's playing like that. He's tough, physical. Doesn't want to come out of the game. Staying in the running game. He's doing everything we're asking him to do as a rookie.
We need more guys to make plays like him. Big Mike, tried to get him going. You saw that. Good to have him in there. Jakobi as well. Got to find a way to get 11 going, Tre Tucker, and obviously our running game.
Q. Trying to get going early on, just no room to run early on?
ANTONIO PIERCE: I have to look at the film, but it wasn't the production we was looking for.
Q. Antonio, you made some comments regarding Tua and his concussions this year. Did you have any talks with him at any point on the game?
ANTONIO PIERCE: I got all due respect for Tua, former player. That was it. Thank you.
