Dre'Mont Jones

Weekday Press Conference

DRE'MONT JONES: What's up?

Q. Being as versatile as you are, maybe when the team is a little thin at certain spots, the coaches move you around to wherever they need you, did last week feel like the best example you've been able to kind of do your whole role and do what you do best because you were healthier on the line?

DRE'MONT JONES: It wasn't an example. Just got the best results out of me personally. I've been through other games where I've done it and done a pretty solid job at it. Just continue to get better and getting used to a role of versatility.

Q. You've got three sacks in the last five games and led the team in pressures last week. What he is working for you?

DRE'MONT JONES: Just staying the course. No matter the personal adversity that I face, I'm making sure that, you know, I'm going straight and narrow and being positive about my out comes and my situation. Definitely not easy but I think make the best of it for this team.

Q. Can you talk about the personal adversity? What kind of personal adversity are you talking about?

DRE'MONT JONES: Off-field stuff.

Q. How have you seen Murphy progress, and what can he bring to the table?

DRE'MONT JONES: I've seen his game continue to grow. He got a little hiccup can the injury. He was out for a couple weeks and I've seen his progression, his eagerness to be, and he knows where to be and he knows how to use his leverage personally. He's a short guy but strong. All the potential in the world to be great.

Q. What challenges do the Bills present to you guys this weekend?

DRE'MONT JONES: Starts with their 6-5, 250-pound quarterback for real. That's the one that gets the horse going. Without them, I don't think they would be the team they are and think know that. Right now he has not thrown any interceptions so hopefully rushing coverage can work together to cause his first turnover in the season.

He's a guy in the past that throws a lot of interceptions because he takes shots. I know he's eager to throw the ball as far as he can in front of our crowd. Have to do a good job of plastering him.

Q. The run game was better in the second half. Did anything change?

DRE'MONT JONES: Our progressions. Just to continue to piggyback off that. We have to continue to be better. I know personally for me, I don't like seeing the amount of yards on the board. Granted, we did win, but I don't want to be the hindsight guy and forget about the run game I think is still an issue for us, issue for me.

We have to be better. I don't want to be one of the last teams in the league in the run game. We are doing a good job. Our mindset is right. The coaches and players are emphasizing it, and eventually it's going to get going.

Q. Obviously you never want to have a teammate be traded away like Jerome, but with Jones coming in touted as a good run defense linebacker, what does that do for your defense room?

DRE'MONT JONES: Buckeye. I can't really speak on it because I don't really know Jones that well. I don't know his game. I've heard from others that I know that played for the Rams that said he was good. As far as that, I don't know.

Hopefully this move works out for the betterment, obviously. We all want that to. We'll see how it goes.

Q. Does it feel like a positive thing when John Schneider and Coach are working to get an impact player?

DRE'MONT JONES: It can be viewed as a positive or negative thing. Depends on what window you're looking through.

Q. What's that process of having to learn guys and their tendencies and communicate with new players that are coming in during the middle of the season?

DRE'MONT JONES: It's a big process. It's definitely not easy to rework your roster in the middle of the season. They are going to do what they do regardless, and obviously I respect that. I believe in it and their system and what they want to do.

It's an adjustment for all of us to learn a new guy and reestablishing a relationship and reestablish a new voice that you're going to hear making the calls in the middle of the field, especially, because he's the quarterback of the defense. It's just something you have to get adjusted to all of us.

Q. Playing at a different weight this season, is that an adjustment for you?

DRE'MONT JONES: It has been. Just getting comfortable with my body again and figuring out my strengths and weaknesses how to make sure all my weaknesses are just completely strengths. So it's been a challenge in that aspect, too, and I think I'm doing a good job at it so far.

Q. The missed pass rushes going well, how much of it is guys playing off each other and thinking of -- sack force fumble, two you collapse the pocket --

DRE'MONT JONES: Yeah, I would say last game was probably the best game surprisingly of us all work together as good as we did.

I think these past couple games prior before that game, there's been a lot of us just -- we just went in and just happened to be like that.

I feel like this Atlanta game was a good game of us communicating the pass game schemes or going to straight rush and reading off each other and we have to get better at that. It's only been seven games. We have a lot more football to play to get better and build our relationship on that aspect.

Q. Have you dropped in coverage as much as you thought you might have?

DRE'MONT JONES: About on par. I've dropped a good amount of time so far this year. I'm comfortable about doing it now. Shoot, put me on whoever now. Put me on George Kittle -- no (Laughter).

Q. How have you seen Derick Hall grow from last season to this season?

DRE'MONT JONES: He's the same type of player honestly. Only thing that's been different is his mindset and it's applying to the field. He has to continue.

Q. The Oregon State game, Jaxon had a Duck jersey on the week after. Did you have to do something?

DRE'MONT JONES: I had to do something a little more personal. No, I didn't make that bet.

Thinking about that, I don't know why we didn't run the ball in the last six seconds of the game. Talk to them boys down in Columbus and tell them to run the damn ball next time and trust the kicker. But it's all good.

Q. What did you think of the penalty, the intentional penalty late in the game?

DRE'MONT JONES: I don't know if that was on purpose. I think Mike brought that up to me ask asked me, did I think it was on purpose or they did it by accident.

Q. Seemed to imply it was intentional --

DRE'MONT JONES: If it was intentional, it was a Ghengis (ph) move. I wouldn't expect that. It was actually, you know, big play by him.

Q. Did you think there should have been a second left?

DRE'MONT JONES: No. Be real. I don't want to be bias. We ran out of time. My boy, 18, was back there just too comfortable but it's all good. They are going to learn.

Q. First game with Roy Robertson-Harris. What were your impressions of him?

DRE'MONT JONES: Like 6-8, it's crazy. He's super strong. I've been seeing his game from afar for a while -- I shouldn't say I've been watching him but I saw him in Chicago and I saw him in Jacksonville.

You just watch a lot of football and a lot of tape, and eventually you see guys and you pay attention to who they are. It's been a unique process of just bring willing them in and he's picked up the defense pretty well. Very powerful guy. Versatile as well. I think it's going to add a lot of good plays to our defense here soon.

Q. What does it do for a defensive line when you have arms that long?

DRE'MONT JONES: Shoot, can nobody touch your chest, and you, the ball -- you don't want big strong O-linemen grabbing you and trying to rough house you because they are already bigger than you in the first place, especially me, they are 6-8, 330, whatever my weight is. Playing with extension is very key for a D-Lineman.
