Pittsburgh Steelers 26, Denver Broncos 21
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Jeff, going in there when Drew got hurt, how long did it take you to get into some kind of rhythm and feel comfortable out there?
JEFF DRISKEL: Yeah, I mean, as a backup quarterback, it's my job to be ready at all times. You never want to see your guy go down. At the end of the day it's my job to be ready to go. Prepared all week. My job is to give the team a chance to win, and we didn't do that. Make a couple more plays here or there, maybe it's a different ballgame.
Q. Jeff, what do you think changed in the second half that allowed you guys to build up some momentum and have some consistent drives down the field like you did?
JEFF DRISKEL: Yeah, I mean, it just comes down to execution. You just got to go out and execute, throw and catch, get a hand on a hat, let your ability take over. I thought we did that at times. Just need some more consistency. We need to finish off some of those drives, on my end get the ball out, get it to the athletes in space. We have plenty of play-makers.
Q. You had a great pass to Fant, unbelievable pass to Gordon, you have a chance to win the game. On the last play with Edmunds, did you see him? Was there miscommunication on him coming completely free?
JEFF DRISKEL: Yeah, I mean, we were in an empty set. We released five. I just didn't -- I mean, I didn't get my eyes in the right spot. My eyes were in the wrong spot. That was on me.
I got to find a way to get the ball out there. If my eyes are in the right spot, it happens a lot faster, I can find a way to navigate the throw, get it to somebody who is running free.
Q. Talk to me about the idea in the second half there's not 70,000 people here. Does it make it any easier on you as an offense? Give you any better opportunity to rally like you did?
JEFF DRISKEL: I mean, I don't know. We're all professionals. I don't think a crowd would rattle the grown men that we have. It's definitely a lot different than what we're used to. But that's the game we play today.
I don't think that made much of a difference at all.
Q. Talk to me about what you thought of Noah Fant, got him really involved. What were you able to find in some of the mismatches with him?
JEFF DRISKEL: Yeah, I mean, I think he's a mismatch, like you said. He's a big, strong guy who can run away from anybody. He does a good job when he gets the ball in his hands. He made some great plays today, touchdown, play on the sideline, two-point conversion.
His tools are definitely showing up. He's made some big plays for us so far this year.
Q. We didn't get to see KJ Hamler much. What kind of talent do the Broncos have here in that guy?
JEFF DRISKEL: Yeah, he's dynamic. There was a couple plays today you saw today where he came wide open on one-on-ones. He can change direction super fast. He's a guy who made some plays today. He's a talented player just like all the other guys we have.
We have a bunch of guys we can throw to. Just got to get it to them.
Q. Obviously you don't get a lot of work with the ones when you got a young quarterback like Drew Lock. How much work did you get? Did you settle in after the second half, start to find your rhythm?
JEFF DRISKEL: Yeah, I mean, I think you said it there. You don't get much, if at all, work with the ones. That's just of the life of being a backup in the NFL, is you have to be ready to go without getting those reps. Everybody understands that.
It's not an excuse for not executing. Yeah, you'd like to have those reps, but there's just not enough to go around. I understand that. Everybody understands that. There's no excuse for lack of execution because you don't get those reps.
Q. Almost rally the team there. In the first half it looked like a feel for the pass-rush was something you didn't pick up until the more you played. Is that accurate, that you weren't seeing it or feeling the pass-rush?
JEFF DRISKEL: I mean, going into this week we knew they're a really good front, have good players, they find a way to get to the quarterback. We all knew that. We knew we were going to have to scheme some stuff up to get the ball off early, quick in the down, because they can get home.
Yeah, I mean, some of those sacks are on me. I got to move around a little bit, got to get the ball out on time. But, yeah, I mean, the more reps you get, the more live action you get, the more comfortable you'll be.
