TJ Watt

Postgame Press Conference

Steelers 30, Bengals 37

Q. TJ, we didn't get to talk to you right after the first Bengals game, but second one of those interceptions where you're kind of locked up with the linemen there. Was that like something you've worked on or you're trying to do sort of actively? The ball kind of landed in your hands.

TJ WATT: I mean, it happens a lot in training camp and throughout practice, so it's something that I'm constantly trying to work on. Going to always try to make a play, try to make a play, even though I can't get the quarterback all the time; just happened to come down with it.

Q. Mike said sometimes other teams just execute. How do you see some of the plays that Cincinnati was able to make, especially Perine getting loose there a few times?

TJ WATT: Yeah, I mean, it was lack of execution. I mean, they had a good game plan for us clearly. They were able to move the ball down the field. We weren't able to hold them to field goals and help or offense out.

We just need to finish plays. I mean, myself personally, I only get so many one-on-ones in a game. When I get them, I need to execute and I need to finish on the quarterback and I wasn't able to do that tonight.

Q. I assume you guys put a lot of effort into preparing for Mixon this week. I don't know how much you looked Perine, or was he different in any way or doing anything unexpected?

TJ WATT: No. He's been in the division for quite sometime, so we know what he brings to the table. We just didn't execute tonight.

Q. TJ, what's the message going forward here at 3-7?

TJ WATT: Just got to digest the film and move forward. Not happy with where we are at obviously.

Q. What allows you to hold off frustration in that kind of situation?

TJ WATT: Right now you mean? I mean, we got a game next week. This business is crazy. You have to learn from each experience, whether it's good, whether it's bad, and you have to move forward.

We're not where we want to be clearly right now, but sitting here and sulking about it isn't going to do anything. We have to be real with what we put on tape. Can't take everything personally. We have to digest the film and practice hard and then come out next week with a better performance.

Q. Figure something out on you guys as the game went on?

TJ WATT: I mean, I don't know. Like I said before, we just need to execute better. I think that's what it comes down to. They had a good game plan.

Q. Do you feel like you guys had a good plan prepared for that coming in?

TJ WATT: I mean, I always feel comfortable with the game plan we have. I don't know if it was game plan things or strictly execution. Doesn't matter what the plan is. We just need to roll with it and perform to the best of our ability. Clearly there was a disconnect tonight.
