49ers 30, Steelers 7
Q. How the game started, that opening drive, talk about how that set the tone for the game.
BROCK PURDY: Yeah, I think it was huge coming in, first off defense getting a stop, getting us great field position, then obviously being able to run the ball, set some things up in the pass game. Hit BA at the end.
In terms of like the momentum and hostile environment, it was huge for us, so... It was good.
Q. The fourth down, did that surprise you at all going for it? What did you see on that play?
BROCK PURDY: No, it was exactly how we drew it up. Get George on a motion, have him go into the flat, get the defense to think we were going to hand the ball off. Hit George on the flat, make him get a couple more yards for us. He did exactly that. Exactly how we called it and planned it so...
Q. In retrospect, what did that play mean?
BROCK PURDY: Yeah, that was huge. It was huge. Obviously you don't want to have the defense get a great stop, great field position, then just give the ball back. To be able to be aggressive, have Kyle call that play, it was perfect. Keep our momentum, then we scored off it. It was huge.
Q. The emotions watching that touchdown pass?
BROCK PURDY: The very first one?
Q. Yes.
BROCK PURDY: I mean, I was just excited that we put that drive together. Everything was sort of clicking. Defense did their thing, we put a drive together. To cap it off like that, to start the season off, I was like, Yeah, it's going to be good.
Q. Is there any feeling after that of it's been a long, crappy road to get back to this point, now I'm here and back?
BROCK PURDY: I mean, honestly not really. I think more in camp and stuff I felt like that. I feel like right there in that moment it was like this is what we're supposed to do, this is what we expect out of ourselves.
Once I hit that touchdown, I wasn't thinking surgery or anything like that. Man, we're here to win. This is it. This is how we're going to play. That's where I was at mentally.
Q. (Question regarding Patrick Peterson.)
BROCK PURDY: Honestly at first, no. I wasn't thinking about any of that. BA was open, did a great job on the route. Got him the ball, scored a touchdown. Then the second touchdown on the right side, the deep ball, was that on Patrick?
Q. Yeah.
BROCK PURDY: That one, that felt good (smiling). It was good, man. He's a competitor. I have nothing but respect for Patrick Peterson and anything he does.
Q. (Indiscernible) seems pretty organic. Do you think about them at all or just your emotion in the moment?
BROCK PURDY: No, whatever happens happens. I'm trying to get the team hyped. Showing them, Hey, man, everything we've done is paying off, it's going good. Just trying to get the other guys going is what I'm thinking in the moment.
Q. Your option to go back shoulder, is it designed for back shoulder?
BROCK PURDY: No, I just went back shoulder. BA beat him off the line pretty bad, put it out in front of him. If not, he has some contact. Give him an opportunity on the back shoulder. That's sort of just how it went, what I did.
Q. Is that part of it, I'm going to let him make a play?
BROCK PURDY: Yeah. That's huge for us. We talked about it in the off-season, just the trust factor, leading guys, having anticipation. Then obviously when it's a one-on-one matchup, we have such great talent, man, give him an opportunity. Throw it up and see what happens. It was a great rep for us.
