Coach DeMeco Ryans

Visitors Postgame Press Conference

Texans - 20, Steelers - 12

DEMECO RYANS: I think both of our units went out and made plays. Offensively we were efficient. I loved C.J. to Tank, that connection making a big play for us. Tate getting it into the end zone, happy to see him back. We lost Tank last year to the injury and you see why we missed him. He's a big play threat every time he's on the field. So I was excited to see that connection make a big play for us.

And defensively seeing Danielle step up and get after the quarterback is why we got him here, to get after the quarterback and that's what he showed in his limited snaps but he did a really great job of getting after the quarterback, being disruptive up front that's what we expected. Excited to see what Danielle did.

Q. Tank (indiscernible) wasn't the biggest guy, but he wasn't going go to go down?

DEMECO RYANS: Tank is tough, pound for pound one of the toughest guys on our team, the ability to make guys miss and the toughness to get through the end zone. That's who Tank is.

Q. [Question off microphone]?

DEMECO RYANS: Our special team unit made plays. The one big play, whenever you get a turnover, that's our thing. We want to take the ball away. For Tommy to kick it down and B-Hill to recover it, that's a big-time momentum swing for us. And we were able to go down and add points off of that play. So we had some nice plays special teams-wise. A lot of things to clean up, but really liked how the unit played.

Q. [Question off microphone]?

DEMECO RYANS: Mario has been disruptive all camp. And I wouldn't have expected anything different from him. He showed up today playing on their side of the line of scrimmage and being disruptive. That's what we need from all of our guys up front. I'm very pleased what Mario did tonight.

Q. [Question off microphone]?

DEMECO RYANS: I'll have to look at the tape see the missed tackles and see where we can get better. Whenever you miss tackles, it's about how you miss them, so I have to look at it. If we're running to the football, if we've got other guys showing up, we're not expecting one guy to make every tackle, so I just have to see how our effort was from the backside.

Q. [Question off microphone]?

DEMECO RYANS: Guys just compete. This is the NFL. We want guys to be their best. That's what guys are doing. They're showing up, competing every day while also being great teammates and helping each other. So that's what you see. You see a competitive group of guys, not only in the wide receiver room, but it's our entire team. A lot of competitive guys who are fighting to make this team.

Q. Road trip is now over. How do you feel about the fact that you guys are able to have -- you talked about the bonding time, but this was a successful road trip.

DEMECO RYANS: Ready to get back home. We've been on the road long enough. I know you guys are ready to be back home as well, but we're excited to be back home see our families.

Q. Anything you learned about your team that maybe you didn't know prior?

DEMECO RYANS: The biggest thing with being on the road is when you have a camp where you go away for a little bit, you see guys grow closer together, and that was the whole idea behind it, making sure our guys connect on a deeper level and that was accomplished off the field and seeing our guys actually get better on the field. So everything that we wanted from coming up to Cleveland and working for a week. I mean we accomplished everything we set out to do. Excited about it now. We'll see what the heat is talking about in Houston.

Q. Your voice?

DEMECO RYANS: Too much yelling. Getting my voice ready. I've got to get back in in-season mode.

Q. Towards the end of the game seemed like you were in (inaudible) encouraging the guys, still giving them cred. What do you need to do still coaching them throughout the game?

DEMECO RYANS: Biggest thing I want my guys to know, I'm all in with them. Every time we suit up, we're competing. It's real. Like we're not taking it lightly. It's real. We want to make sure we're playing smart in the situations and we want to make sure we've got great energy out there. I want them to first and foremost feel that from me see how important it is from me so they can go out, play that same way. I love the energy our guys played with tonight. It's representative of Texans football.
