Mason Rudolph

Postgame Press Conference

Buccaneers 17, Steelers 14

Q. Mason, walk you throughout that. (Indiscernible - mic problem) (regarding Rome.) How have you see him progress through camp and second year?

MASON RUDOLPH: Yeah, great catch by Rome. Yeah, he's been very dependable over camp. Threw him a couple balls last week in Jacksonville. You can tell. I know it killed him having to sit out all last year with the injury, and he is extremely hungry to get out there and make plays and prove himself, and I think he's definitely done that.

Q. Have you noticed something about him that gets open a little bit faster, okay, he's getting off the ball a little bit quicker even from the start of training camp?

MASON RUDOLPH: I mean, I wasn't with him last year I can't compare and contrast. I think from the first day we threw this past spring he's an explosive guy. Very quick of the line. Great releases. He's got good hands.

So he's locked into Arthur's offense right now and our offense, and he's going a good job digesting all the concepts.

Q. First off, take me through the pick. I'm sure you hated the throw. Just wanted to ask how it went for you after that, how determined you were to do exactly what you did.

MASON RUDOLPH: Yeah, DB made a good play. I was a little bit late to the scene and he overlapped in cover three and made a good play. I got to either be quicker to the seam or check the ball down.

Yeah, that happens in the course of a year, course of games, even early in games. You got to mentally recover from that and go back out. I was happy about the way we moved the ball down the field. Rome on the chunk play to get us in the score zone and we finished it off.

Q. How much have you seen the first team offensive line kind of grow as camp has gone on? What have you seen from them?

MASON RUDOLPH: Yeah, they've been great. They been a joy to work with. Frazier, McCormick, two young guys; Spencer Anderson as well. Great communication. Really Grady Blue Collar Lunchpail guys that are fun to go to work with. Yeah, they've played well in camp. They have been healthy, which is important. They've been available.

That unit continues to mesh.

Q. Take a moment during the applause to allow it to sink in for you as you ran out for the first play, that you're back here for the first time since the Cincinnati game?

MASON RUDOLPH: Yeah, it was great. A lot of the great memories here and so thankful to be back in such a great organization. So, yeah, no I definitely enjoyed running back out of that tunnel with this team and being in black and gold and having some fun out there.

Q. You looked calm and collected running away in it Vita Vea. Did you feel calm and collected?

MASON RUDOLPH: I think I must be a good actor because Vita Vea is a big human being and definitely had the heart rate up a little bit. Offensive line did a great job giving me a lane to escape.

Q. Is Roman Wilson becoming a more viable threat in the pass game?

MASON RUDOLPH: Absolutely. Absolutely. He's been great. I just commented on how hungry he's been. He probably would've played the whole game tonight if he could.

Q. What can you say about how Scotty Miller performed in camp and preseason?

MASON RUDOLPH: Really well. He's a veteran guy. Sneaky, like maybe top two fastest guys on the team. Assignment sound. Knows what he's doing all the time. Can play different positions. Really great. A guy you can trust when you're out there.

Q. Do you feel Kaleb Johnson starting to settle in to becoming a pro?

MASON RUDOLPH: I can. I think you saw some streaks and flashes last week. Probably a lot of nerves in anyone's first game, but, man, he ran it well tonight. As well as 3-5, my man, Lou did a great job totting the rock. Great to see that from both of them.
