Kirk Cousins

Press Conference

Vikings 10, Colts 12

KIRK COUSINS: You know, in our first preseason game or first action, but good to get the rust off, get back in it, and be able to play.

That's what you're here to do, so fun to get out and play. We'll go back, and like we always do, watch the tape and talk about it and improve.

But it was good to get out there and get some action, and great to have the fans back filling the stadium. Fun to start moving towards the reel thing.

Q. What do you think was the issue for the slow offense?

KIRK COUSINS: Not any one thing. I was really pleased with the way we ran the football. I thought we had some really good things moving early on. The first drive we had the third and short. Threw the slant inside to Adam and didn't connect and you got punt.

The second time we completed in the third down and we were, I don't know, maybe half yard short. It's a game of inches. And then the final series we were running the ball really well. I mean, back-to-back-to-back. Just really good runs. O-line did a great job. Ameer was doing a great job running the football. So was CJ Ham.

And then you know, just took the sack. That puts you on the third and 20, and there is not a lot of great plays for third and 20. That was a long answer of those three series.

Q. How do you feel now versus last year? How prepared are you now?

KIRK COUSINS: I feel really good. I feel -- felt really clean tonight as far as just seeing coverage and getting through my reads. Felt like we moved quickly. I felt like it was really smooth operation. That was encouraging. I thought overall it was real smooth.

Q. Do you feel like the offense is going to need more time together before week one? Coach Zimmer just said he didn't feel like you guys were able to get in a rhythm.

KIRK COUSINS: You know, if we had had a tremendous night tonight I would've still expected to play in Kansas City, or wanted to play, crowd noise, being on the road. I would expect to play and try to it get something going.

Q. Mike just said that just from practice last couple weeks he felt like maybe you weren't getting to the reads that you wanted to. Maybe the last week or so. Do you see it the same way, and what might that be attributed to? Are they blitzing more, is that pass rush?

KIRK COUSINS: No, I'm not sure. I'll have to ask him what he meant. Good practices, real sharp. Looking forward to being able to play out here.

Q. (Indiscernible.)

KIRK COUSINS: You know, they're doing a great job in practice as well. They know the game plan inside and out. Just a matter of the time. It's really a small sample size right now. Difficult when you only play for a few series and you don't have a full four quarters to put the body work together. Just got to stay the course and over a larger sample size things will work themselves out.

Q. I believe you talked about using your legs more tonight. (Indiscernible.) What was going through that play? Was it nice to have that live rep seeing the defense?

KIRK COUSINS: Yeah, third and 20, like I said, it's kind of tough to convert those, and they obviously dropped like they should pretty deep to take everything away. We weren't able to get our flat element out. Got caught up in protection. We had to try to get as close to 30 yard line as we could for a for makable field goal opportunity and try to get as many yards back as possible.

Wished I had been able to maybe cut back in and maybe get a few more yards so we could make that field goal. That's the things you go back and watch and see what you can do better. No matter how well you play, always looking for things you can do better.
