Sam Darnold

Postgame Press Conference

Lions 31, Vikings 29

A. Yeah, obviously tough loss. Really good football team we just played. Still some missed opportunities out there. I still feel like operationally we can get better. Still some missed opportunities out there.

But, yeah, again, just we typical our caps to those guys. Really good ball club. Again, there is a lot of stuff that we could have done better on offense.

Q. Sam, what did it feel like coming out of the half to initially have the success you guys did?

A. Yeah, I think it's just staying with it. It's football. Things aren't necessarily going to go your way all the time. To come out there in the second half with a touchdown was huge.

And yeah, that's just kind of the team that we have. No matter what the score, no matter what's happening, we're going to continue to be resilient.

Q. The final possession there, the overthrow on Jefferson, what happened there?

A. What play?

Q. The last possession. Third and four I think.

A. Oh, yeah. Second to last possession. No, that's okay. Yeah, you know, just could've put it on him a little bit more, a little bit better. But, again, just got to watch the tape, you know, and kind of look at that one from different angles.

Q. Sam, you feel like there is a theme operationally with some of the penalties? Are they all kind of individual and exclusive in their own?

A. Yeah, you know, just got to continue to clean things up. I think that's the biggest thing; watch the tape and grow from it.

Q. What did you see on that interception?

A. Yeah, you know, first of all, I think the way Detroit disguises certain coverages in the back end and with different fronts being able to bring pressure in different ways, they do a really good job.

Obviously can't let that happen, you know, but, again, I think Branch made a really good play on that.

Q. How do you see the division race shaping up going forward?

A. Yeah, I mean, it's still early in the season, you know. Obviously Detroit is a good football team. Green Bay is a really good football team. Chicago is a good football team.

We're just going to continue to put our heads down and work. That's all we know how to do.

We have a short game this week and got a lot of guys in there already recovering and getting ready for Thursday. It's a quick turnaround and a lot of us just got to continue to - as we do all the time, but especially this week we just got it out approximate our heads done and move on to the next one.

Q. Obviously this is your first lost with this group. What gives you the confidence that you guys will bounce back the right way?

A. Yeah, I think just the kind of guys we have in that locker room. We haven't batted an eye all year, no matter what the circumstance is. So we're just going to continue to, like I just said, put our heads down, continue to be resilient.

The biggest thing is playing consistent football. If we can continue to do that we'll be all right.
