Vikings 21, Colts 13
SHANE STEICHEN: No injuries to report. To start off, obviously very disappointed going on the road and not getting it done. It starts with me. I'm the head coach. Everything that's on that field I'm in charge of, so I wasn't good enough.
Q. Was Jonathan Taylor shaken up at all? Is that why he left the game?
SHANE STEICHEN: I don't know.
Q. You guys were throwing pass (indiscernible) Trey Sermon. What was the idea behind that?
SHANE STEICHEN: We have faith and trust with Trey to go in there when he has to go in there. Obviously he had a few runs there too, so (indiscernible).
Q. What do you think was the issue tonight? Lowest points on drives of the season.
SHANE STEICHEN: Yeah, I mean, prior to Minnesota to we had a lot of good things, but again, I'm the head coach. Everything that's on the field my name is on.
We did a lot of good things defensively. We know they mixed up their coverages, blitz looks. We knew it was going to be a tough challenge coming into the game.
That's a good football team we played. At the end of the day it wasn't good enough.
Q. How do you think Joe Flacco handled tonight?
SHANE STEICHEN: I mean, he was fine obviously. He's been playing in environments like this before, but again, it starts with myself as the head coach.
Q. You've said that a few times after games this season. What can you do or do better going forward?
SHANE STEICHEN: I have to keep looking at what we're doing offensively, you know what I mean. We have eight left. We're halfway through the year now. Just kind of look at scheme stuff and what we're doing and go from there.
Q. Will Flacco will be the starting quarterback moving forward?
SHANE STEICHEN: For now, yes.
Q. Do you think going from one quarterback to the other has affected the offensive --
SHANE STEICHEN: I don't think so. You know, it's just like with any position. You have to roll with it, and next guy up. Obviously Joe will (indiscernible).
Q. How did the changing quarterback maybe affect your running game? Obviously it gives you a boost there. Any thoughts on that?
SHANE STEICHEN: Yeah, we have to be efficient running the football there with J.T. and stuff, but we'll get that cleaned up. I have full faith and confidence that they'll get that cleaned up.
Q. You guys came out running a little bit more today. Is that just to kind of to stay out of their blitz looks?
SHANE STEICHEN: We popped a few runs early. That first drive we popped a big one there, and then we converted on the third and one to Granson there and turned the ball over there, and then they obviously did a good job against the run there. We had some penalties, but we have to get clean. We'll get it cleaned up.
Q. Shane, (indiscernible) has had one catch each of the last two games. How does he get more involved?
SHANE STEICHEN: We have to get him going early in games. Obviously we have plays up for him, and sometimes the coverages doesn't allow to, but we need to keep finding ways to get him going.
Q. Can you do that given how limited he is just physically with the injury?
SHANE STEICHEN: Yeah, you try to find ways for sure. Even though he is down with something, you still try to find ways.
Q. You said that Joe gives you the best chance to win. Do you still feel that way after a night like tonight?
SHANE STEICHEN: Yeah, right now, yes.
Q. I know it's just one drive of that opening possession. Negative 27. You go right down the field and just have an unforced error.
SHANE STEICHEN: Those are always tough when you are moving the ball and you have a turnover there. You have to find ways to bounce back from them.
The environment that you are in with the crowd noise and stuff, you have to find ways to keep the momentum going, keep drives going.
Q. You guys have to try to bring more pressure, and tonight (indiscernible) those receivers. What was that calculation?
SHANE STEICHEN: I thought Gus and those guys did a heck of a job getting the turnovers. They played good the whole game. They really did. Obviously they kept us in it the whole time. You know, getting the turnover there, the first one to get us a touchdown there. I thought our defense did a hell of a job.
Q. You talk did about schematic adjustments. Would you consider at all changing play callers on offense, or are you comfortable doing that?
SHANE STEICHEN: Right now I feel comfortable doing it right now, yes.
Q. Where can Joe be better? Obviously you have your part, but he is a veteran.
SHANE STEICHEN: We'll go back and look at it. I mean, there might have been a few completions here and there that we could have had, but again, he's a calm guy that has been playing at a high level for a long time. So I have a lot of faith in him.
Q. It's been a while since we've seen Alec pop one of those explosive plays. What needs to happen to get him going back to doing that?
SHANE STEICHEN: You have a lot. They did a great job defensively there on the two shadow pretty much the whole game staying over the top. We were hitting some curl routes inside too obviously there a few times, but yeah, we have to find ways to hit those chunks going versus different looks.
Q. How do you feel Goncalves came out of this game against that type of a defense?
SHANE STEICHEN: I thought he did a good job. It's hard to watch the O-line all the time. You know, you're watching skill guys running down, but go back and look at that. I thought he battled his first opportunity for sure.
Q. Did you ever think about (indiscernible)?
SHANE STEICHEN: I did not.
Q. What did you think of just his play that kind of --
SHANE STEICHEN: He was awesome. Like I said, the whole defense. The defensive line was awesome. The back end was awesome, linebackers, defensive.
