Coach Frank Reich

Press Conference

Colts - 12, Vikings - 10

FRANK REICH: Preseason game number two in the books. It's always nice to win. It's only preseason. Just need to play winning football. And we want to score in a preseason game, but it's still nice to get the win. Had some good things. Obviously the defense played well. A bunch of three-and-outs. Really playing good defense in that game.

We need to get, we need to create turnovers. We lost the turnover battle, so 2-0 we need to find a way to get the ball on defense. Didn't play especially good on third down.

Offensively, first and foremost, (indiscernible) turnovers. Thought we moved the ball at times (indiscernible) in the first half, moved it at times when we had to. Gotta look at the film. There's a lot to cleanup I'm sure but there were some positive things as well.

And special teams, kickers, kickers were good. Specialists were great. We had that one long return on us. We don't like that. Our standards are pretty high as a unit, but overall happy to get the W and get ready we play in six days.

Q. Can you assess the quarterback position, how Sam and Jacob played?

FRANK REICH: I mean, I need to look at the film more closely but they both did some good things, made some good plays. Obviously Sam had two kind of tipped balls that turned into interceptions. Have to clean that up.

Jacob missed one or two things early but then hit some big plays. But we'll learn from those. I think both did positive things. I've got to look at the film more closely to get a full evaluation.

Q. I think in a perfect world you would wanted to have some sense of where this might go going into game 3. Did you see enough tonight to make a decision in the coming week?

FRANK REICH: I'm not sure. I've got to look at the film to make that determination. But my hunch is that we're going to need to see another week. My hunch is we're probably going to need to see another week. I think both guys are doing enough, showing enough good signs. Both guys have made enough mistakes; that's normal. It's hard out there. It's not easy. So we'll just, we've got a whole other week of practice, one more preseason game. I'm not sure yet about the play time and who will start. (Indiscernible). We'll sit down with Chris and staff and talk that through.

Q. What do you like about how both quarterbacks overcame adversity at points today?

FRANK REICH: I think they did. Threw the interception, drive back down and score and kick a field goal. Same thing with Jacob. Missed a throw, whatever, came back. Got a couple of big plays. So we talk a lot about that, especially at the quarterback position. You've got to have thick skin. Have to put it behind you. And I think both guys have shown that in the two games we've had.

Q. Not to get ahead of ourselves but are there pros and cons to waiting another week to kind of move forward?

FRANK REICH: I think it's all good. I mean I think it's all good. Either way there's been a lot of reps. There's been a lot of reps. So I don't think we have two weeks after that. So if we get a grip on what's going to happen week one, I think we'll have plenty of time to establish what we need to establish.

Q. Effectively we've asked you a lot about the tackles. What did you think about Julién Davenport, one of the starters tonight?

FRANK REICH: I'll obviously have to look at the film a little closer but I felt like he played pretty well. There were times early on there where they had some good pass rushers, but I thought Julién looked good. Just to the naked eye, watching it because I am watching it at times to see do we need to help tackles. I thought he was pass blocking well and run blocking.

Q. What do you feel from the defensive line today?

FRANK REICH: It was good. Kwity got his first sack, that's a big deal. Looked explosive and (inaudible) and got five guys (indiscernible) the end. And I thought they put good pressure on the pass. I thought overall the defensive front looked strong.

Q. I know you're not game planning and scheming so forth, but not putting it in the end zone, how does that sit with you? I know you don't love that?

FRANK REICH: I don't love that. Four field goals and 0-for-2 in the red zone is not going to do it. We know that. We've got to look at that and figure that out. You're right, we're not game planning very much. But there were still a couple opportunities there I felt we should have got it in there. We'll figure that get out, coaches and players (indiscernible).

Q. On those field goal attempts, did you feel you were as aggressive or not as aggressive as you would be in the regular season? And did you want the kickers just to get some attempts today?

FRANK REICH: No. Great question. Maybe that one I might have gone for. But I felt good. Even before the fourth downs, I was kind of talking to the staff, kick it here, get fourth and whatever. I'm just going to kick this. Thought it was going to be one of those games.

Q. We haven't asked you a lot about the kicker competition. But we seen in training camp, preseason, neither guy's missed?

FRANK REICH: There haven't been very many. Certainly in the games there hasn't been a miss. And not many misses in practice from both kickers.
