Q. Tell us, were there any nerves on the first tee today?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Actually not much, but I think it's just like excitement a lot. I had a lot of adrenaline. I just feel like I was a little nervous, but not a lot. I was more excited than nervous.
Q. Last time we spoke you talked about playing sage and getting win there. Was going to be a big confidence boost coming into this event. Now 18 holes in with a practice round to boot, where do you feel like that confidence boost puts you out here?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I had a lot of confidence going into today. I just feel like I left a lot out there today. I feel like I'm still confident going into tomorrow. I just feel like the putts that left out there today I can make tomorrow.
I feel like I can play a lot better than today.
Q. How much was the conditions this morning, how much did that play a factor for you?
ASTERISK TALLEY: It was definitely windy and raining early in the morning, but when it rained the hardest I got a birdie, so I feel like that didn't affect me in a bad way.
But I feel like the wind definitely played a big part in the way I played the course today and probably will tomorrow.
Q. You mentioned before looking up to Anna Davis. Were I able to interact with her?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I ran into her a couple times, but we haven't really like talked. I feel like just the mindset that she would have would be the same as mine, and I feel like we could just play the same game honestly.
Q. Who was on the bag for you?
ASTERISK TALLEY: My dad.
Q. Talk about at that decision and how was it playing with him.
ASTERISK TALLEY: A lot of people think it's like tough because golf dad, like always on to you and stuff.
But I feel like it's actually nice to have him there because he knows my game better than anyone else. Like he's with me practicing every day. He knows exactly how far my clubs go, how I hit the ball.
He's just -- he knows my game probably better than myself. I feel like that's an advantage.
Q. You shot even today, T29, right there on the edge. What do you feel like have to do tomorrow? Put more pressure on you to maybe go a couple under?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I feel like tomorrow I definitely have the potential to go a couple under. I feel like, like I said earlier, like I left a lot out there today. I feel like if I just step it up, I probably won't be as anxious as I was today, and I feel like I can definitely get that couple under, 2- or 3-under.
Q. What's the best part of your game?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I feel like right now it's kind of in between, because I don't want to say anything because today it wasn't the best.
But I feel like...
Q. (Regarding Sage.)
ASTERISK TALLEY: Putting for sure. I feel like anything within ten feet I was making at Sage. You know, within 15 feet I had a chance to make the putt and I feel like that was just the best part. Along with my chipping because I would just get up and down every time.
Q. Who do you look up to?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I feel like just any professional. I try to learn from all of them and what their games do. I just feel like I try to learn from everything that they do.
Q. What's kind of the biggest thing you picked out from a particular pro golfer?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Just staying calm on the golf course. For them, you're on like the biggest stage possible for golf, and they just don't get ahead of themselves. They don't get anxious.
Every pro messes up, too, so I feel like you just have to learn from your mistakes. Even when you play a bad round you can still learn.
Q. Who is the most famous person in your phone?
ASTERISK TALLEY: None. I don't know.
Q. Who is the most famous pro you've met?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I met a lot. I'm actually good like -- me and Bryson have the same coach, so I run into him multiple times when I'm actually just trying to get a lesson.
Yeah.
Q. Have you talked with Bryson yet or it just kind of...
ASTERISK TALLEY: Definitely talked to him before. Our facility at my lesson is so like small that like you can't really avoid anyone there.
Like if I hated someone there you still have to talk to them. (Laughter.)
Q. Is this in Dallas?
ASTERISK TALLEY: No, it's in California, Fresno.
Q. Who is your coach?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Mike Schy.
Q. Okay. Have you adopted any of the stuff that Bryson did with the golfing machine and all that?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I have in the past, but I've like changed back. I've had the big grips and like single length clubs but kind of shifted back. I still have like big grips but they're normal ones. If that makes sense.
Q. They're not jumbo but not small?
ASTERISK TALLEY: They're not the brand of Jumbo Max but they're still the bigger kind.
Q. What's the golf club on your shirt?
ASTERISK TALLEY: I have no idea what this is. I just bought it.
Q. What's it say?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Fort Belvoir.
Q. Do you know where that is?
ASTERISK TALLEY: No. No clue.
Q. Where did you buy the shirt?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Online.
Q. You just liked the color?
ASTERISK TALLEY: My dad likes ebay, so...
Q. What all has he bought on eBay for you?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Clothes and probably shafts maybe. When we need them like really fast and they're cheaper obviously. He likes to save.
Q. What's the story behind the bracelets?
ASTERISK TALLEY: My grandma gave these to me, the first two. They're like -- I don't know, they're to help you like stay calm and like be strong or whatever.
And then my friend gave this to me and she said like the album reminds me -- reminds her of me. This is from my mom. It's just like to play good.
Q. You're a big Taylor Swift fan then?
ASTERISK TALLEY: My friend is, but I'm not.
Q. (Indiscernible.)
ASTERISK TALLEY: 1989.
Q. Which is not your birthday?
ASTERISK TALLEY: No, probably like around my moms.
Q. Wasn't your dad supposed to work this week?
ASTERISK TALLEY: He was, but at the time he was on workmens' come and didn't think he would have to work. Last week or a couple weeks ago at Sage he was -- they called him and they were like, you have to come back to work. He ended up just calling in. He used his vacation.
Q. What does he do?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Correctional officer.
Q. Does he run a tight ship at home, too?
ASTERISK TALLEY: What do you mean?
Q. Does he keep like a tight ship?
ASTERISK TALLEY: Oh, no, no. I mean, some people say he's strict but like to me I feel like it's just discipline. Like parenting. Like people nowadays they don't have like strict parents.
I feel like golf parents in general are more strict because they want you to play good. They don't want to you mess around.
But like I feel like it's just normal parenting so I don't like -- I don't mess around and I don't like do something wrong.
