Q. As first rounds go, that's pretty good, especially when you consider...
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, yeah, it was hard to figure it out, especially down at Amen Corner. You know, you're at the mercy of it on some of the holes, to be fair. It was a struggle out there. If you weren't completely dialed it was a struggle. It's swirling a little bit, and days like this make you realize that the auras are true about the swirling wind, different spots, and all that stuff.
But, yeah, one of those days, but survived. Happy to be under par.
Q. Got it going after some bumps I guess coming out of Amen Corner. What turned for you there around 14 and 15?
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, had a good number on 14 for a tight pin. Don't have much room to land it up there, so had a really good number. Full pitching wedge. You can go right at it when you have that.
Knocked it on in two on 15 and made some nice solid pars coming in. Had them read right on 17 and 18; just didn't hit them hard enough.
It's hard to with the wind and slopes behind the holes and stuff. So, yeah, it was tough. Obviously.
Q. 13, what happened there?
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, so what looked like a good break plugged in the bank. I thought I could get it out, and like a plugged lie in a bunker, you feel like you got to go at it.
I did. I went at it and it came out really good, 40 yards over the green, and lost the ball in the azalea. All in all, a good six.
Nice break on 12 and good break on 13 that turned into a bad one, and then played nice after that.
Q. First time I'm pretty sure competitively with the belly putter here.
LUCAS GLOVER: Yes.
Q. I know you practiced like all get out the last few days, but you're now playing in a competitive round on these greens with that.
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, so the first week I used to last year I took it to Muirfield Village for the Memorial. My mindset there was we're going to throw it right in the fire because those greens have some very similar characteristics to these as far as slope and pace.
I did well, so that told me I could do it. To be honest, the faster the greens the better with that thing, because if the greens are slow you got to take it so far back.
So I was actually really looking forward to putting these with it because of the pace.
Q. Interesting thought.
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah.
Q. It's a different animal.
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah.
Q. Look, you can go out and win other TOUR events this year. You want to come back to Augusta as often as you can. (Regarding qualifying and winning a green jacket.)
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, of course. This is ten. I've been on TOUR 21 years, so I'm under half. I'm not one of those guys that's been here year in and year out. So, yeah, it's always on my mind. You do something well or have a good year, a good week, yeah, it's obviously a bonus.
Growing up a couple hours from here it's a big deal to me.
Q. Best first round.
LUCAS GLOVER: It is?
Q. It is.
LUCAS GLOVER: Oh, good. All right. Good research, Bob. Yeah, no. I can assure you the 71 felt like a lot lower on a day like this.
Q. Conditions like this, is it just hang in there type thing?
LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, like I said, if you're not 100% dialed in and making everything and kind of playing unconscious, it's survival.
Q. (Indiscernible.)
LUCAS GLOVER: Wonderful. Greens were -- they were bouncing pretty good Tuesday, Wednesday. Today just a little less. They were still -- balls weren't plugging or anything.
You know, fairways were bouncing a little bit, so yeah, course was great.
Q. Are you going to the range?
LUCAS GLOVER: No, done.
