Q. Cam, can you assess the round and how you handled the final pairing today?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think I handled it fine, just didn't make anything. That's the story the week honestly if you look through all four rounds. I had a chip in yesterday and maybe made a putt or 2-over ten feet and really that was it.
So I feel like I played the golf I needed to. Just didn't have the day making anything at all.
Q. Walk off the course feeling pretty confident after your first couple starts?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I don't feel that -- there is no negative to take away other than obviously I would've loved a different result.
But in terms of the golf, I played plenty well enough to win today and plenty well enough to win by a couple I think.
So just one of those days. If you go through the back nine I pretty much had a birdie chance on every hole and didn't make any. That's how it goes sometimes.
Q. Is it hard not to push and hit shots closer and be more aggressive instead of taking what you can?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, but, I mean, how much closer do you want me to hit it than I did on the back nine? Want me aim right on 12? Just one of those I think the shots are pretty obvious and I hit a lot of them; just didn't make anything.
Q. 12, 13, what was the putt that really stings the most?
CAMERON YOUNG: I mean, there were a few. 12, I think 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, all right in a row. Just I mean, any one of those or three of them could have gone in and be a different story.
So, yeah, like I said hit the necessary shots and just couldn't quite get it in the hole.
Q. Seeing the way Rory played Amen Corner, what was your thought process going into those holes?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, 12 doesn't change anything, target is kind of the same. 13 I really feel like doesn't change anything. That's kind of -- if you hit a good tee shot you go, if you don't sure you're laying up.
Yeah, I knew that I was -- I don't know how many back at the time, three I think after 13. Kind of assumed I had to make two birdies anyway.
You know, gave myself all the chances in the world and just didn't make them.
Q. Did you think of a specific read on 15 and 16 obviously nearly made both of them. What did you see on those putts?
CAMERON YOUNG: 15 I played just right of center. That green is pretty choppy I think at this point in the day. Looking down from the fairway it's not green, so it's -- that one is a little bit up to chances.
Then, yeah, hit a great putt on 16 as well. Just broke right pretty much the whole way there. Had one that did something similar yesterday. Just like the last four inches just almost like bounced of the front lip of the hole and then lipped out.
So, yeah, all good putts. Nothing I would really want to try again. Just would've loved for it to end up differently.
Q. Is it one of those things where it feels like if one of those things goes differently, can build or it's just when they keep not going is almost stacks on top of itself?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Yeah. It's just I don't feel like I hit any putts that I would've hit really differently. The only one maybe is 14. I hit a little too hard, but just watched Rory's slow up pretty good. I really felt like I could roll it down the hill and it wasn't that fast.
Really don't think I hit any in any certain way that I wouldn't want to again. It's just one of those days. Really one of those weeks. Just didn't make much the whole week.
Q. You obviously just won one of the biggest golf tournaments world. Is there anything that feels different about being in contention here specifically on a Sunday?
CAMERON YOUNG: Different than three years ago? Yes. Different than one year ago or eight months ago? Maybe a little. But not that different. Feel like I've gotten really comfortable with my golf and with where I'm at, and I think I just am starting to understand more and more how to handle myself on days like that.
I feel like I did a good job today. Just was not my day.
Q. From your perspective what was it like playing with Rory? Obviously he went on to win. Was he just locked in? Did you interact? What was it like?
CAMERON YOUNG: There is not much. I mean, I'm not one to talk a ton to begin with, and I don't think he really be the wanted to talk to me today. Sunday at the Masters in the final group, you know, don't wish anything poorly on the guy, but we're playing against each other. Not trying to be best friends out there.
Just one of those times that either you leave each other be and if there is a moment -- there were one or two but not many.
Q. Do you feel like you could learn anything from playing with him today?
CAMERON YOUNG: I don't know. He's obviously a great player. I watched him play three rounds this week. I think if you asked him he would admit that he didn't drive it particularly straight the first two days and did some incredible scoring.
Some of that is down to the randomness of golf. Sometimes you hit a bunch wedges close in a row. Sometimes you don't.
So sure, yes. There is plenty to learn from him. At the same time, I would like to look back on this week more in the sense of I played great, well enough to win, and it just didn't quite fall my way this time.
Q. Back on two looked like you pulled driver on the for your second shot?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah.
Q. Is that something you've done before? What was the addition...
CAMERON YOUNG: Hitting driver off the deck?
Q. Yeah.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, plenty of them. Not on that hole. I've always hit driver off the tee there but this year decided to lay back a couple days. At the end of the day I felt like 3-wood just short was more reliable than trying to get it back there. Could have reached with driver, but just didn't make sense.
Q. How do you feel about the crowd out there? Obviously Rory, seemed like you got a lot of the support as well?
CAMERON YOUNG: Uh-huh, yeah, definitely had quite a bit. You know, he's a favorite in the world of golf so I wouldn't have expected the crowd to necessarily be on my side.
I feel like there was maybe more than I expected and that was fun.
