Philadelphia 4, Toronto 2
Q. Maybe just your thoughts on how that one played out tonight.
JONATHAN OSORIO: I think yeah, it's a game that I think got away from us in the first half. Just silly mistakes and a lack of intensity from the whole team. You know, we actually understood what we were coming into in this game, their style of play and the way they play. This is a team that has a certain idea of how they play, and they commit to it 100 percent. You know, if you don't bring the intensity, they will make you pay for it, and I think that's what happened to us in the first half.
And then, yeah, in the second half, it was a little bit better but I think overall, we let it get away from us in the first half. And yeah, it was just a lack of intensity from the team. Yeah, we know we have to be better.
Q. On a night like tonight, are there positives that you can take way from this, anything that you look back at and say there's parts here that we can build upon?
JONATHAN OSORIO: I think on a night like this, yeah, of course, we learn. We learn what it takes. You know, the different type of level to be successful in this league. We played against a team that made it to the final last year and was very close to winning the MLS Cup, and now they are in the semifinal of the Champions League, so it's a team that's been pretty successful in their DNA for a couple of years.
So yeah, we learn now, I think the way the game went, we learned why. We learned why they are where they are, and we see how much we need to work to get to that level. But I think as far as positives, yeah, I think we learn from that.
In the second half, it got better. In the second half, I think you saw that when we did change our attitude and when we press and the way we were intense, the way we moved the ball, it was much better. I think we have to take that into the next game, and also especially I think the overall competitiveness of the group has to show up for every game moving forward.
Q. How much did that first on-goal set the tone for the night? It seemed to rattle the side. There was a little bit of pressure but it came out of nowhere.
JONATHAN OSORIO: Yeah, I think they came on the front foot and we were a little bit under it. But at first I thought we were dealing with it until they get a good chance, and actually Sean makes a really good save for us. I think it's a pretty unlucky play there. Just we're trying to get at the ball, and unfortunately it goes off our own guy and bounces into our net.
I think we just didn't do a good job of responding in the right way after a bad bounce like that. You know, the really good teams don't let those things rattle them, and they continued playing and they put that in the past and move forward.
Yeah, I think today we let it rattle us a little bit and we kind of played into their game plan. Yeah, it hurt us in the end.
Q. Lorenzo was back in the starting lineup for the first time since the season opener, second straight game. You obviously had a hand in the goal that he scored. Just wanted to get your take on what you saw from him tonight?
JONATHAN OSORIO: Yeah, Lorenzo, we miss him. He brings in a lot of quality to the team. I think with him in the team, we move the ball better. I think maybe it didn't show in the first half because the way they were pressing, and we didn't do a good job of playing through that press. Although the times we could find Lorenzo, we did find good moments. But we weren't able to really take advantage of them.
But yeah, Lorenzo is a very, very quality player and a guy that we need on our side all the time. He showed today, especially in the first half, that in moments, he can show his quality and show how special he can be, scoring that goal, and having a couple more chances that the goalie has to make really good saves on.
Yeah, I think it's good that he played the amount of minutes that he did, coming out of it feeling good, and I think that's good for us moving forward.
Q. Two assists for you on the night. I know there's not a lot of positives in a result like this. Finding a way to make something out of a night like this, there are a lot of strong voices in that room; what are some of the conversations you guys are having?
JONATHAN OSORIO: The guys are talking because we are trying to figure it out, of course. The season has kind of been a weird one to really put your finger on just because we've been in games -- we've been in every game that we've played in minus this one today.
I think this is the first game that really we let get away from us but we've been in every game that we've played in this year, whether that's to win the game or to tie the game. And so we're just trying to figure out how we can take the next step and I think guys are just together, speaking together, letting, you know, their opinions out and seeing where we can find common ground to see where -- what things are being said that are the same from everybody that we can use to move forward and to get better.
And yeah, guys care. Guys in this locker room care, and we'll be working really hard this week to really figure it out and to put it all together to put in a much better performance next Saturday in front of our home crowd.
