Tyquan Thornton

Press Conference

Chiefs - 22, Giants - 9

Q. Can you take us through that fourth quarter catch, the one that didn't count?

TYQUAN THORNTON: I got another opportunity to go out there and make a play for my team. Pat put the ball up. I'm (inaudible) there, stuck my hands out there and grabbed the ball. (Inaudible).

Q. At what point during the play or before do you feel the ball's going to come to you on that?

TYQUAN THORNTON: Once he came through the first time I kind of get a feeling it's going to come to me on those routes when I have an opportunity to go down the field because we want to be aggressive and take (inaudible).

Q. Is that tough to do back-to-back plays? I know you had a break in between, but just the pace of going all the way down field on a second play in a row like that?

TYQUAN THORNTON: Not really. We train for that in training camp. We've got long-drive drills. Coach Reid, he makes it real difficult for us. When we go out there we just work.

Q. I know it's three games, but what would you say is the reason you've had so much success so far given how much Pat has been able to trust you?

TYQUAN THORNTON: Practice.

Q. Why do you say that?

TYQUAN THORNTON: I mean, practice reps become game reality. You go out there, you work at the little things, you challenge yourself, you don't shy away from it. You go out there on Sunday and (inaudible).

Q. Was it a reassurance with all of that being in Sao Paulo? I know it's an unusual situation with Xavier, but how you stepped up in that game, does that reaffirm everything you went through?

TYQUAN THORNTON: It's definitely reassurance. I knew what I could do. This team taking a chance on me and Pat giving me an opportunity to make plays, proving myself (inaudible).

Q. Tyquan, you said you're exceeding expectations. What does that mean for you (inaudible) Patrick?

TYQUAN THORNTON: It means a lot because when I first got here, coming from New England, seeing these guys practice, they practice at a high level and so efficient in How they do the little things, the little details, making routine plays. And I was a guy coming in, just trying to be a part of that and just making those plays as well.

Q. When you do (inaudible) practice, obviously they're gearing up for the playoffs at that point. What are you treating practice like and just trying to get (inaudible)?

TYQUAN THORNTON: Every day is like a Super Bowl for me, just coming in there. I wasn't used to playing for that long.

So play as it's practice, you have more fun with it. When you lose, you're enjoying it, the camaraderie, getting to know each other. I was the new guy trying to fill in this spot. Blessed.

Q. How do you prevent that, what happened in New England, from lowering your confidence at all? Seemed like you still stepped in just for the --

TYQUAN THORNTON: You've got to know who you are, look at yourself in the mirror. Sometimes life can be hard, but you've got to keep working.

Q. The catch, he was kind of draped all over you on that one. Did you see it clearly when it came in?

TYQUAN THORNTON: I seen the ball as soon as it came out of his hand. I knew it was coming to me. I knew he was going to give me the opportunity. I saw the ball, just squeezed on it.

Q. Did you know for sure you didn't catch the first one, or did you --

TYQUAN THORNTON: The first one I thought I held onto it. But the ball had a little bit of movement. I've gotta do a better job on my end.

Q. How sure you caught that last one?

TYQUAN THORNTON: For sure.

Q. Since you came here, at what point did it really click, this week, last week, you said to yourself, okay, I've got a sense of belonging, I can be productive and stuff?

TYQUAN THORNTON: First up in the building, last year, seeing the offense and seeing the rows each guy had, seeing how offense worked the plays, this scheme, I felt it was a perfect fit.

Q. This is the most yards you've had in your career. Just what does this night mean to you when you say you know you can do it?

TYQUAN THORNTON: Just know this stuff, gotta get 1% better, have the team have me do whatever, go do it.

Q. I saw a couple of guys late that were pointing up when they came up to you. Could you describe your celebration on that catch?

TYQUAN THORNTON: I think -- I wanted it, high school, get on the sideline, confirmation that we've got this one because I've been holding the first one. Now I'm like did he get it? Did you see his hand up? (Inaudible).
