Minnesota Vikings 16, New York Giants 13
Q. What was that moment like when you found out you were going in the game compared to going out there and taking those first downs?
MAX BROSMER: It was really cool. The job of what my role is is to be ready to go in. Whenever that is, you have to be ready.
It felt like we prepared really well this week as a quarterback unit, and because of that, we had success in the field, and we had to finish that game.
Q. Obviously going in for someone who is injured is never a good thing for you, but how good was it to go out there and get your feet wet again after that Seattle game?
MAX BROSMER: It's good. It's a matter of being ready no matter what happens, and obviously that week was a tough week for the team, and to have that kind of happen throughout your first start, it's good. You have to take what comes from that game and learn from it.
Again, the support staff and the structure around the quarterback room has been great. Because of that, it felt like, again, it goes back to the preparation of what we put in this week and throughout the weeks prior. Because of that, we had success on the field, and the defense did a great job on stopping there on fourth down and obviously finishing out up front with the O-line and with the run game is so cool to be a part of.
Those guys, when you say the call to them and you see the look in their eye that we're going to finish this game, that's a cool feeling to be a part of in a huddle.
Q. Max, Brian O'Neill was talking about the lightness you have going into the huddle. I feel like some guys could be prepared but still feel tense or nervous. Is that part of your personality or because of your teammates? Where does that come from?
MAX BROSMER: I think it's both. We talked about the experience of starting an NFL game and being able to apply that throughout the rest of your career, and this was just the next step.
You walk into a huddle with a bunch of vets like that who are just, like, everything is all right. The first couple of plays B.O. was, like, Hey, you don't have to say it so loud, they might be able to hear you. I'm so used to yelling in the huddle. He's, like, You're good.
We calmed down in the huddle, and that goes back to the leadership in the huddle and leading together. Not just one guy leading, but leading together. That's what our team is made of is a bunch of leaders and great leadership around from the top-down.
That's what happens when you have a bunch of leaders like that in the huddle.
Q. The play of the game, that third and 17 throw to Justin Jefferson, can you walk us through what you saw and when you decided to let it rip?
MAX BROSMER: I thought it was a great call, number one. I think playing the odds of what they were going to play on defense, that call I think we had in the bag for weeks on end without actually running it.
Then we get that play call on third and 17, and we get the exact coverage we want, and Jets been a great route. I think starting number one with the protection up front, we had a great and chip on both sides by a tight end and C.J. on the right side and the O-line, they couldn't have protected better.
Making that is a lot easier when you have a protection up front against a really good front, too. Those guys took it with what we have as the play call, blocked their butts off, and Jets made a -- I'm talking about the catch he played on the sideline. It was a great catch. He made a great catch to make it right.
Ended up getting points on that drive, and Will Reichard, he's a heck of a guy to have on your team.
It all came together. It's a community. It's a team thing. Not just a one play thing. That drive was great to get points.
Q. If you are the quarterback on Thursday, where does the week start for you? How long do you enjoy this win?
MAX BROSMER: It just goes back to just normal preparation. It's not thinking too far in the future, you know, what's going to happen.
For me it's a short week, and just like the last time we had our short week, it was right to work. So we're going to get on this bus and plane and start watching film.
I'm still learning how that Thursday game works coming from college. So I know J.J. was feeling the same thing last time we had a Thursday game. We're going to get together as a group, make sure we're prepared as a team, and get ready to go 1-0.
Q. Was there anything from the Seattle game that you had learned from that you might have done better?
MAX BROSMER: I think it's just the moment. I do. I felt like I was extremely prepared against Seattle.
Fortunately or unfortunately, the situation unfolded the way it did. That's just kind of how it goes. There's things we could have done better and things we did well. You have to continue to build on the positives and fix the fixables, but that's like every game.
I think the biggest thing was just the moment, being in the huddle, being on the field in front of a great crowd. We come to MetLife, which I thought was a really cool stadium, by the way. I wasn't expecting it. It's one of my favorite ones we've been to.
It's being comfortable and being prepared in the moment. That's all the NFL football is. When you are prepared with the play is and the defensive structure, we know what we're getting, being able to step into that huddle with confidence and being able to execute the plays called in an efficient fashion, and I thought the guys did really good today.
