Jaguars-20, Buccaneers-7
Q. Describe your night when you had a sack trick like that, three sacks? What was working for you tonight?
JOSE RAMIREZ: Shoot, first of all, I'm thankful God gave me the day to get on that field and play the sports I like to play.
So, yeah, I felt good. The DBs was doing their job. Everybody was doing their job compressing the pocket, and I just ended up with the sack. Everybody was getting there, so I was just doing when I got there. It's just a race to the quarterback.
Q. I know Mac Jones kind of slipped on the second that you had. Can you kind of walk us through what you saw on the first sack and third sack? What was going on?
JOSE RAMIREZ: I ain't going to lie to you. Ever since I had a couple of rushes in practice where I was trying to do too much. I talked to Yaya. I talked other guys. They were, like, Man, just get out the ball. My first thing is always just get out the ball.
Whatever the tackle give me, that's what I'm going to take. So he give me inside, whatever it is -- sometimes I go to the sideline, and I don't even remember what I did. It's just the game inside the game. Just go out there and play.
Q. We just talked to Coach Bowles, and he mentioned that you are developing as both a pass rusher and someone who can set the edge, stop the run. After playing this game tonight with those three sacks, also on defense in general, how do you feel like you're achieving that goal?
JOSE RAMIREZ: Man, I just trust in coaching every week. There's always something new I can figure out and get good at. Even though I got three sacks, there's still work to be done, still stuff I can get better at the run, get better at the pass.
There's always something to get better at the end of the day. I'm going to go in and go back to work when we get in there tomorrow.
Q. There's a lot of pressure obviously with your sacks, and Markees Watts got one as well and a couple of other guys. How frustrating was it not getting off the field? There was a lot of third and longs that the Jaguars were able to convert.
JOSE RAMIREZ: It's a lot of frustrations, but we just have to have next play mentality and try to trust the coaching and try to fix what's going on, whether it be defense, whether it be offense.
It's a team game, so at the end of the day we need to clean up what we have to do to get better. Just trust in the coaching during the game because that's more so what it's going to be at the end of the day.
Q. You spent last year on the practice quad. We heard from Tristan and Luke that you gave them a lot of tough looks in practice. How much did it help you going up against a guy like Tristan or Luke in practice?
JOSE RAMIREZ: Boy, going against them every day, man, you got to understand, like, it's a $150 million. You one of the best tackles in the league. Luke, he underrated, so it's things like that. Going against them every day makes it easier on me. When I go to the game, it's a verse that my mama sent me. It's in Psalms. It say, The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.
So going against them every day, it let me know like, no, I'm going against these dogs every day, and like, going against them, I'm not saying it's easy, but going against everybody else it's like, man, I've been doing it. I've been doing it against Tristan and doing it against everybody.
Man, I want to get it done, but just go out here and play.
Q. 23:1.
JOSE RAMIREZ: Psalms 23:1, good memory.
Q. Has there been anything specifically that you've been working on, like since the start of training camp?
JOSE RAMIREZ: Man, since the end of the season and into last year just working with Tristan, Luke. Just them giving me pointers on stuff that I can use.
They see it from the other side. I see it from my side. So them telling me ways to beat people, this and that, and working with AP, Dre, Coach Wade, and all of them in the weight room. Just getting my body where I need to be and working with G and Ms. Jess and them.
Just the whole Tampa Bay just putting 100% of what I got to do because I feel like that's where confidence comes from is just working the whole offseason. When it comes to game time, there's no nerves or butterflies.
You probably get them feelings before the game like I'm about to go play football, but it's not that I can't execute my job because we put the work in already. So I'm thankful for everybody.
AP, every time we get in the weight room, man, we put in some work. We're about to get some work in tomorrow. I know he going to get me right, so yeah.
Q. There's been some injuries to the outside linebacker room with Yaya and Joe as well. So how has it been for you getting some more opportunities because of the guys out and trying to take advantage of it?
JOSE RAMIREZ: Yeah, I take advantage of it. Them boys good. They healthy. Both of them made of machines, so we ain't got to worry about their injuries. They're going to be good before the season starts.
Like you said, taking advantage of the opportunities. There's two guys that are starters that play a lot that's not playing right now, so everybody else got to step up.
So I take it as in, shoot, an opportunity that God blessed me with to go out there and play some more. Just taking it as that. Not taking it as, dang, I got to get more reps or do this. Just look at it as it's more opportunities to make plays, so...
