Bryce Young

Visitors Postgame Press Conference

Jaguars - 26, Panthers - 10

Q. How do you think you can -- I mean, you're trying to make a play. You're trying to do something outside the structure. How can you protect the ball better?

BRYCE YOUNG: Yeah, just better decision-making. I obviously can't turn the ball over like that. It cost the team. I have to be better than that. Just better decision-making.

Q. (No microphone)? What were you surprised by?

BRYCE YOUNG: We always feel confident going in. We're always expecting to win. We obviously didn't get that done. We'll watch the tape tomorrow and learn and grow, but that confidence doesn't waver.

Q. Dave said that part of the reason you guys played in the preseason is to get used to working as a team. Do you think that helped you coming into this game?

BRYCE YOUNG: Yeah, they did a great job with the plan. It's on us to play better, it's on me to play better. It's nothing about organization or coaching or anything like that. Got to be better.

Q. Some visible frustration after that fourth down. What led to that? Is it just your competitive nature? What was going through your mind at that point?

BRYCE YOUNG: Yeah, just competitive nature. That's all. If I can do a better job, I'll definitely do a better job of body language there, but that's on me. Just competing, and that's all.

Q. Do you feel there's something you missed on that play? Is that why you were frustrated?

BRYCE YOUNG: Just something that was going on with not executing. Again, when you're not executing, it sucks, but I have to do a better job as a leader.

Q. Was there something with the snap? Did it seem like the snap was weird?

BRYCE YOUNG: No, not at all.

Q. But you and Austin did have some issues today. Looked like the snap was coming early.

BRYCE YOUNG: Whenever you're dealing with -- you're on a road team, you have good pass rushing. You're trying to mix the cadence, do different things, make checks. You're going to have some things, but none of this is on Corbett at all. He did a great job, played a great game. There was a lot of communication to be had, and he did a great job of handling that.

Those snaps for me -- one, again, he did a good job with that, and that's part of the game. That's no excuse for anything I did, anything like that. I have all the confidence in the world, in him. He played a great game. Like I said, just have to be better.

Q. A lot of your teammates said this offseason just felt different? Does that make it even more frustrating for you guys?

BRYCE YOUNG: We're competitors. Obviously no one likes to lose, but it's week 1. We're going to watch it tomorrow. We're going to wear it, we're going to see where we can grow from, and after that we're going to flush it. We have a long season ahead. We're going to push ourselves to be the best we can be every single day. That doesn't change. That's always been the goal. That will always be the goal.

Not a lot of fun today, but we're going to move past it.

Q. This is the third week 1 in a row that hasn't gone you guys' way, like the team. What have you learned from those previous two games that helped you kind of keep your confidence going into this this season?

BRYCE YOUNG: It's a one Sunday at a time type of league. No matter what it is, you're not entitled to anything good or bad the next week. Again, I have all the confidence in the world in this team, this organization, this coaching staff. Didn't get it done today. I have to be better. We have a lot of competitors looking to get in there. That's where our focus is at.

Q. Just because Dave was asked it too, were you frustrated with the play call there?

BRYCE YOUNG: No, not at all. No, nothing like that. Again, just competing. Didn't execute. Do a better job with body language there. That's all.

Q. What are your emotions right now?

BRYCE YOUNG: Again, we're competitors. No one likes to lose. But at the end of the day, just want to be constructive. When we get back, whenever the time is right, watch the film. I'll watch the reps, see what I can take from it, see how I can grow, see what I can learn, like we all will tomorrow. That's the only thing I can do, only thing we can do to be productive.

Q. How much of this loss do you take on your own shoulders today?

BRYCE YOUNG: We're all talking about looking in the mirror. Of course no one in this locker room, including myself, is looking what about this person? It's all about what you can control, what you can improve, because that's all as individuals we can control. Again, I'm going to look at the film, see what there is to grow on from that standpoint, and that's going to be the mentality for everyone.

Q. Dave said he spoke to you guys and said this is the picture of where we're at right now and this doesn't have to be who you guys are long term. Who else spoke in the locker room afterwards? Was there any conversation during the weather delay about just staying focused and locked in?

BRYCE YOUNG: I'll keep what was said in the locker room in the locker room. Yeah, it was interesting, but yeah, we're all wanting to stay locked in and stay focused.

Obviously you're in a state of not knowing what's going on, but that's part of the game. They've got to deal with it too. There's no reason to blame or anything like that for us. We just have to be better.

Q. On the fumble, did you think -- I know it looked like his knee hit the ball or something, but in retrospect, did you slip there?

BRYCE YOUNG: Just have to do better with ball security. Just have to do better.

Q. I know some quarterbacks aren't necessarily natural sliders. Do you feel comfortable in your slide?

BRYCE YOUNG: Yeah, just have to do whatever it takes to analyze the situation and take care of the ball. Have to do better with that.
