Jacksonville Jaguars 17 - Houston Texans 10
Q. You connected late on that 50-yard touchdown pass. Did you feel like the opportunities weren't there as much in the first half, or were you all just trying to take what the defense gives you --
C.J. STROUD: A little bit of both. They played some good coverage, and I tried to take what they gave me in the first half. That play kind of just popped. So it was a good play.
But, yeah, that's kind of how the first half went compared to the second.
Q. I guess what was the most frustrating part about it? Was it the penalties or just I guess knowing that you all are better than maybe what you all showed? What do you think?
C.J. STROUD: I think it has to go together. You know, like, the penalties are part of us knowing that we're better, but also, we can play a lot better. I can play a lot better.
Our defense has been holding up. We got to be able to help them. Yeah, it's not easy, but yeah, we just got to go to do better.
Q. How do you guys right the ship from here?
C.J. STROUD: Just move forward. Got to fix the mistakes and, yeah, just keep going forward.
Q. Nico was obviously not pleased with that fumble. He hadn't made those mistakes in the past, so how do you all kind of work through that?
C.J. STROUD: Just got to pick him up, just like they pick me up. I threw an interception, and everybody was helping me out on the sideline, keeping my spirits up.
Same thing for him. We all know he doesn't really do that, so it was just something we got to just coach up. Whatever happened, we got to just fix.
Yeah, he's a heck of a player, and my faith is in him, like everybody else's. Just got to pick him up, and I'm sure that we'll get that fixed.
Q. Do you feel like that touchdown to Nico could have been like that jump-starter? From that moment on the offense was kind of moving up and down pretty efficiently. Obviously you guys saw the turnover as a jump-starter for the offense?
C.J. STROUD: Yeah, definitely. Whenever you can make a big play, you know, you could start calling everything. That was the first time we kind of hit one rather than a go ball last week, which isn't really like a designed play.
This league is hard. Take what they give you time and time and time after game. That's what this league is coming to with all the two high zone coverage. So that play kind of opened everything up, and we started to move the ball really well after that.
Q. The last play obviously your arm got hit. What were you seeing on that coverage -- (off microphone).
C.J. STROUD: Yeah, I mean, they went to like this two-man kind of coverage, and I thought C. Kirk was open. I thought maybe we would have scored. Like you said, my arm got tipped, so unfortunate there. I made a good play.
That's the NFL. It's like two-inch margins, you know. Yeah, it just sucks because I thought I had C.K. down the middle, and I thought we had a good drive. We were moving the ball pretty well, so that's unfortunate.
Q. What was DeMeco's message? How do you all grapple with getting things on track after an 0-3 start?
C.J. STROUD: Just fixing issues. We're really close. That's the problem is we just keep reiterating that we're close, and now it's time to fix the issues and be honest with one another.
You know, his message is just we're going to keep having these results if we don't finish and we don't, you know, take care of the ball and just do the small things. The effort is there, the physicality. Now it's just the execution.
Q. What are some of the good things that you guys had on offense today?
C.J. STROUD: I thought we ran the ball well. I thought we somewhat threw it well. It's always better than what you think, but when you lose, of course, it's not good enough.
Yeah, the sun will rise up tomorrow, and we'll be able to go back to work, so that's a positive. You know, we have to just keep going forward.
Everybody is going to talk crazy like they've been doing and have these analysis, and rightfully so. That's the NFL. You give them an inch, they'll take a mile.
We have to be able to stay together, stick together, stay as a family, stay as a brotherhood and try to get these things fixed because it's a long season.
It sucks we start 0-3, but it can be flipped, so...
