Seahawks - 20, Jaguars - 12
SAM DARNOLD: Obviously it was a great team win, first and foremost. I thought we could have done some things better on offense, especially in the second half, but again, we got the win, which is what matters.
We'll look at the tape and grow from there. But our defense, our special teams, that was -- they came up huge today. It was good to get those explosive plays, I will say, especially in the first half, but there's a lot to improve on, but we're excited about the win.
Q. Could you take us through the long touchdown to Jaxon.
SAM DARNOLD: Yeah, we got a certain look where I'm kind of alerting the post on that. Yeah, was able to just throw it up, and Jax made a great play tracking it. That was something we worked on OTAs, training camp, even throughout this week in practice, and we made it come to life in the game.
Q. He's had four games now where he's topped 100 yards, hasn't had fewer than 79 yards in a game. What can you say about his ability to just do it every single week?
SAM DARNOLD: Yeah, his consistency has been amazing, just the way he's come to work every single day, the way that he practices every single day. That's a testament to the way he works and the standard that him and really Coop and a lot of the guys kind of set the standard in that room. They never waver from it.
Q. Last couple drives, you guys came out throwing. How much do you like the confidence and not just get super conservative and try to put them away that way?
SAM DARNOLD: Yeah, we're going to go execute whatever Klint asks us to do. For us to go out and throw it when we need to, run it when we need to, there's a ton of things we need to get better at, but I know that Klint is going to call the play, and we're just going to go out and execute and do our best.
Q. Nice looking up and see 88 wide open at the end?
SAM DARNOLD: Yeah, that was nice to be able to get that. Again, that's a testament to all the (video glitch).
Q. How different is it this year versus last year?
SAM DARNOLD: Some different coverages. I remember last year the single high safety, which I'm not sure I've ever seen in a game before. They kind of took advantage of me being a little greedy out there. I told myself I was going to take what they give me, and if they give me a check-down, I'm going to take it today. I felt like I did a pretty good job of that.
But, again, that's a great defense. They've got great scheme over there. That defensive coordinator does a really good job. I know Coach Coen and all of them over there do a really great job as well. So a great team, and we're really excited about where we're at as a team and the result of this one.
Q. What have you come to trust about Jaxon Smith-Njigba?
SAM DARNOLD: I feel like every single day in practice we're continuing to earn that trust together and grow that confidence with each other. It's just continuing.
Q. Taking care of the ball, that was obviously a big emphasis coming into this week?
SAM DARNOLD: Absolutely. Jacksonville had done a great job all year of taking the ball away from teams, and that was a huge emphasis for us to be able to take care of the football and for runners to be able to take care of the football in the open field. I feel like we did a good job of that today.
Q. Did A.J. put something in your head to be in your back pocket if they give you a man look?
SAM DARNOLD: We've got a ton of plays in our back pocket. There's a ton of plays we can go to, but that's a play that A.J. does a really good job at. Really all of our guys do a really great job of those routes. (Video glitch).
But the offensive line and the other tight end, it might have been Sauby over there on the defensive end just holding him up a little bit so I could get that one off.
Q. Sorry if you said earlier. Did you check against that look or called it?
SAM DARNOLD: Yeah, it was called. I felt like it was matter of communicating and everyone kind of understanding and being on the same page.
Q. Could you talk about the Coop touchdown?
SAM DARNOLD: Yeah, again, I figured they showed an all up look. Again, this is kind of a trend here with the execution of our offense, but it's something we've been working on for a really long time, that play specifically. Coop did a really good job of gaining outside leverage and just breaking to his spot that I knew he was going to go to. He did a great job of coming down with that one.
Q. If there's a concern with third down, anything in particular, 1 of 10 it ended up being?
SAM DARNOLD: Again, it wasn't good. It wasn't good on third down. I don't think we were very great in the second half, to be quite honest, other than that last drive obviously.
We're just going to continue to improve. Look at the tape and see how we can get better and go from there.
