Q. Well played today. Let's get your thoughts on that round.
CALEB SURRATT: It was a great day. I've been working really, really hard the last few weeks. This is my fifth week traveling, so I'm really -- I've learned a lot. I've had to fight a lot of battles, so it was kind of nice to win today's battle.
I'm very pleased, but it's just the start of the tournament.
Q. Last year 61. This year 62. What's the key to getting around this golf course?
CALEB SURRATT: I don't know. I'm just comfortable on this golf course. It fits me really well. Maybe it's just a coincidence. I think I'm really starting to peak and find some good form.
I played well at the end of this year, and I've kind of had to fight to get back. I feel like today kind of showed me how some work has paid off.
Q. One bogey on the back nine. What happened there?
CALEB SURRATT: Yeah, it was -- well, my caddie told me to hit 7-wood off the tee, and I said no, I'm hitting 5-wood. Of course I hit 5-wood right in the bunker. I hit a really all right chip and just missed a little four-footer.
As good as today was, I did give myself like a lot of four or five-footers for par, so it was definitely nice to make the birdies, but I still converted a lot of those today. Hopefully I can take some of that stress off moving forward.
That was just one of those that was my fourth five-footer for par of the day, and unfortunately I missed that one.
Q. How would you sum up the year?
CALEB SURRATT: Much better year. I learned a lot. I believe I'm one of the best players, and I truly have shown myself that, especially towards the back half of the year. I'm really starting to learn my process, learn what I need to do to play well.
I think it's an everlasting process to learn how to be more consistent. I feel like my good golf is more than good enough, but what makes all these great players so good is they can bring it nearly every week.
The good golf's there. It's just a matter of kind of putting myself in that position to succeed a lot more often. When you do that, I think everything gets easier over time.
