Q. We'll start with just take me through going to the Masters, first of all. It's already a pretty awesome week. Just take me through the excitement of going to Augusta. Had you been there before and what kind of the plans were as far as just the week without knowing what was about to unfold?
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah, no, it was my first time so I was super excited. We had tickets for the practice rounds. He plays professional golf, too, Trevor, and he had been before. His uncle played for a very long time so he had been to one of his uncle's Masters.
Q. Okay.
LAURA RESTREPO: That's how we got our tickets. We were couldn't get there until Monday afternoon. The plan was to be there Tuesday, Wednesday. We got a little unlucky with the weather that both afternoons basically got called off. We were there all morning on Wednesday, all morning Tuesday and all morning Wednesday, and, I mean, such a special place.
Augusta is just insane how pretty and perfect and immaculate everything is. So we were there Tuesday and we had a great time. The second day, on Wednesday, I totally unexpected, we were in between 13 green and 14 tee and we were watching Tiger's group go by, and then we saw a couple more groups go by and we asked a guy who was standing near us if he could take a picture of us.
You're not allowed to have phones but you're allowed to bring a camera, only on practice days. So we asked the guys that was just kind of standing nearby like, Hey, can you take a picture of us.
The guy said, yeah, of course. Actually it's a good thing that you asked me because I'm a photographer.
So he took a picture of us and he left, but he was standing maybe like 15 yards away from a us, and Trevor, my fiance, thought that was a perfect in, so he ran over to the guy.
He told me, Hey, I'm going to ask the guy -- I didn't like the picture. I'm going to ask him to retake it so that you can see the green better. That's kind of like what he said.
I was like, Sure. So Trevor went over to the guy and told him, like, Hey, I'm about to propose; can you take pictures?
So I was just standing there in front of the green ready to take a picture and Trevor pulled out a ring and I couldn't believe it. It was super special. It was awesome.
Q. Now, what's Trevor's last name?
LAURA RESTREPO: His last name a Sluman, S-L-U-M-A-N.
Q. And who was his uncle or who is his uncle?
LAURA RESTREPO: His uncle's name is Jeff Sluman.
Q. And he played in the Masters once?
LAURA RESTREPO: He played many times.
Q. Many times.
LAURA RESTREPO: He plays on the Champions Tour now. He had a long career. He won a major. He won couple times.
Q. Okay. That makes sense. I'm putting a name with the face now.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yes.
Q. Did Trevor know the guy, the photographer? Was the photographer there -- like did he know him and he was in on everything?
LAURA RESTREPO: No, he was not in it. It was just --
Q. Wow.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah, he knew when he was going to do it, and when the guy said he was a photographer he seized the opportunity.
Q. Yeah, no kidding.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah, it was awesome.
Q. Did you by chance catch the photographer's name?
LAURA RESTREPO: No, we didn't. I wish we did.
Q. So the man in the mist.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah. Yeah, I don't know him. (Laughter.)
Q. Yeah, no kidding. That's funny.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah. It was awesome.
Q. When you combined the beauty and the majestic feeling of Augusta National, what goes through your mind when you are like, Wow, I got engaged there?
LAURA RESTREPO: I was so shocked I couldn't believe it. It was just such a special place for both of us. We love golf so much and that's what brought us together. He played golf at Louisville and I played golf at Louisville and we've been dating for a long time.
It's such a big part of our lives and that was such a special place. It was kind of in my Bucket List to go, and, I mean, I couldn't think of a better place for him to do it. It was incredible.
Q. When did you guys start dating?
LAURA RESTREPO: We started dating eight years ago.
Q. Eight years, wow.
LAURA RESTREPO: In college, yeah.
Q. So 2014?
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah, right about then.
Q. Okay.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah.
Q. And you said Trevor, does he still play?
LAURA RESTREPO: He does play. So he was on Korn Ferry the last two years but he lost his card this year, so he's playing in the PGA Latin America tour this year.
Q. Okay. Very nice. So you guys know what it's like, life on the road and seeing each other only at various points throughout the year.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah, for sure. We understand the lifestyle so well, which is very important, because it's not easy.
Q. Uh-huh, exactly.
LAURA RESTREPO: Actually 2019 when I won on Symetra, like a couple months before he had won on PGA Tour China when China was still a thing.
It was just a couple weeks apart, so 2019 was a really good year for both of us.
Q. Wow, that's pretty cool. I didn't know that.
LAURA RESTREPO: Yeah, that was awesome.
Q. So when you guys are able to get together and to be able to have one of those times be this moment, are you able to put into words I guess what you envision future moments to be like? Does it just get even sweeter from here in your mind? Like when you're on the road and like you said you know the travel and not being able to be with each other; but now kind of taking that next step in life together, does it get -- does life just get a little sweeter?
LAURA RESTREPO: We're building a life together. Yeah, I mean, it's -- this whole week has been just so exciting and so special. We're just so happy.
Q. I can imagine.
LAURA RESTREPO: Every time we were watching the Masters afterwards when the tournament started and we were watching it on TV, every time they showed 13 we were like, Oh, that's where it happened.
The Masters is always going to be very special to us.
Q. Exactly.
LAURA RESTREPO: Hopefully one day when Trevor is playing in the Masters it'll be even more special.
