Quick Quotes

Q. You're tied for the lead. Talk to me about what was your intentions going into today before your tee off.

JIWON JEON: You know, I have a good rest this week. I took advantage of knowing this course because I play this course for two years when I was in college.

Yeah, so the good rest will be helping -- help me to, I mean, going to play like good rounds of golf this week.

So, you know, today before the round just trying to not think about like a lot of stuff. I just trying to focus on like each shot. Especially when I practice on the course, on the facility, like just try to hit straight on the course.

Yeah, just relax a little bit. I didn't want to like stuck up on one thing, you know, so I just really -- I was very relaxed going into the first round today, which that lead me to play like really good round today.

Q. Nice. And talking about rest, what's your ideal routine, especially for a morning round? You have to wake up early and get loose. Talk to me about that.

JIWON JEON: Yeah, so actually whenever I have a morning round on the first day I usually just practice -- finish, the practice by lunch or just little after lunch and then get rest for the -- full rest in the afternoon.

So, yeah, which I did yesterday. I just watched some like YouTube, did some stretch. I was just marking my yardage book, just trying to go through what's going to happen tomorrow on the course.

Yeah, that's my preparation.

And then have some good dinner for next round. So, yeah, that's all I did yesterday.

Q. And then going into your round today, you started off with bogey. After that was it is just birdies and pars.

JIWON JEON: Yeah.

Q. How did that bogey motivate you or reset you for the rest of the round?

JIWON JEON: Yeah, so I started bogey. I missed the fairway on the left side so I was in the bunker. I missed the gree by just a little bit and didn't make up and down, so it got me a little bit of anxious.

That kind of motivate me going to next hole, that, you know, I'm going to make birdie. And I know I can do it because this course is not the hardest golf course, so we can actually attack the pin and make birdie.

So I just try to keep it fairway and then shot and putt, that's it. That's all I was thinking about like going into the second hole. Then I started to make some birdies after second hole, which is good turnaround.

So, yeah, and then ever since that hole, like I was very comfortable and I was in the comfort zone for the most of the round, and then I finished up really good with a good score today.

Q. With comfortability and the confidence with this course, how do you level that out without getting too anxious and trying to press for birdies and just staying patient?

JIWON JEON: You know, like I was anxious for a moment, and then I know this course like really, really well. I know where to go, and so I wasn't really try too hard to make birdie, so I know where I need to hit and where I need to go on the greens.

So, yeah, was really focused on like each shot, to make the best on each shot. So, yeah, that's what happened today. It could be worse like if I was anxious through the whole round, but which I -- I threw it off pretty quickly, so, yeah, I did a pretty good job on that one.

Q. What's the mindset going into tomorrow like?

JIWON JEON: You know, I shot 7-under, but today, it is what it is today. I did great, but tomorrow is new day. I want to do the same thing as what I did today. Just trying to hit good shot on each shot and then just be relaxed and stay calm as today and just do the same thing tomorrow.

Q. There is a lot of golf left.

JIWON JEON: Yeah, it's four days this week, so....
