Texans 32, Colts 31
Q. Can you take me through the last drive? What was going through your mind?
DAVIS MILLS: I mean, we knew what we needed to do, go down and find a way to get in the end zone and score a touchdown. It was an unbelievable feeling, converted a couple critical 4th down situations, 4th and longs, and guys were just making plays, the offensive line stepped up and gave me really good protection and guys were making plays on the edge.
Fortunately, Jordan Akins stepped up big time. I think a defender might have mistimed his jump a little bit, but luck was on our side, found a way to make a play and get in the end zone, made a big time play for the continued and ended up answering again for the two-point conversion. All together, though, that just shows how much this team has fought all season. I think this game displayed that the best. A lot of ups and downs.
The guys found a way to fight, and we got the result we ended in the end.
Q. What did you see on that particular play?
DAVIS MILLS: Yeah, we're motioning to empty and everyone is basically running down the field and getting in the end zone. I've got to buy enough time to find somebody who's open. I felt like everybody was pretty much covered. They did a good job defending it, dropping a lot of guys deep, and kind of just threw one up to Jordan, and he ended up making a play. It was awesome.
Q. Did you see him open or were you just wanting to give him a chance?
DAVIS MILLS: Yeah, I mean, I think they covered him, there might have been two or three guys around him, but I thought he was my best guy to go up and make a play right there, and trusted him to do that, and he scored. It was awesome.
Q. So it was "prayer" play?
DAVIS MILLS: Basically, yeah. Sometimes it boils down to that. Sometimes you've got to get lucky.
Q. What was your hope in finishing like you did today?
DAVIS MILLS: Yeah, I mean, looking back at the whole season, it was a tough year. Not the result we wanted throughout most of the year. I think we started playing some of our best football later in the season. I mean, I think this game kind of capped off kind of how we felt for most of the year. It's a struggle, but we've got to do everything we can to claw and get by and find a way to win, and we did that at the end of this game.
Me personally, I think I've just got to continue to keep improving. Hopefully I proved enough to get the spot going into the off-season with the draft coming up, but I know that's not entirely my decision. It's the front office's, the coaches', but I proved that I can go out there and win games. I want to continue doing that in this league.
Q. There's been a lot of speculation about the coaching staff. Have you listened to that?
DAVIS MILLS: I've kind of blocked everything out social media-wise and outside the building for pretty much the whole year. I don't know a ton of the speculation.
I know when a team is not winning every game of the season, there's always talks like that, but I like the people we have in the building. I think we're continuing to grow. We're continuing to build a really good team. I know we've got a lot of draft capital and stuff happening in free agency coming up, so I'm excited to see what we can work with and put out there for this off-season and going into next year.
Q. How would you feel about the Texans drafting another quarterback?
DAVIS MILLS: I mean, I've got to respond to whatever happens anyways. I know my mindset is always going to be the same. I'm just going to put my head down and get down to work regardless of what happens. But like I said, I hope I proved enough throughout the season. I want to continue getting better as a football player, and I know my best football is ahead of me.
