Indianapolis-21, Chicago-17
Q. What was it like tonight for you? Very loose?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Yeah, it felt great. I'm feeling super comfortable. And Shane's offense, been in it a little while now. Feel really good about the guys I have around me. It was good to get out there and get a win today.
Q. What have you learned over the course of your career about how a backup quarterback can support a starter, especially a young guy like Anthony?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Yeah, you know, kind of my first time in that type of role, but just try to help when you can. When you see things, let them know.
I try to think of things that I like to know when I'm going out there and trying to get that stuff to them. Just always there to offer encouragement and help in any way you can.
Q. Does it help to have kind of you almost as a translator sometimes or that immediate, hey, what did you see on this play on the sideline where it's not a coach?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Yeah, I think there's a little bit different relationship there. They can tell you what they think and then sometimes somebody with some experience can tell you a different way. Neither is right or wrong, but it's good to have different opinions sometimes.
Q. What's your mentality then when you do get out on the field like you did today?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Yeah, just try to win each play that you're in there, do your assignment each play, score each drive, eventually hope to win the game.
Q. We talked earlier this week about the difference of having reps in the joint practices versus the game action. You said you get a good feel for guys in practice, but this is when you get to go out and prove it when it's in a game. What was this offense able to prove, especially with that second quarter drive that you were able to engineer?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Yeah, I thought it was good. I think we kicked ourselves a lot with penalties, and that was no good. Cleaned some of that stuff up and we scored, which is cool. It's good to see some guys making some plays out there.
Really honestly shout out to Sam Ehlinger. The dude was balling. Brought us back to win the game, and that was a lot of fun.
Q. Jake Funk, second big week for him. What type of play-making ability has he demonstrated?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Making a strong case for preseason player of the year. Back-to-back weeks of scores.
Funk has done a great job, had a great camp. Super consistent. You know what you are getting with him. Really like having him out there.
Q. You had two guys who were signed yesterday go out and make big plays. Can you even fathom showing up to a facility one day and going out and playing in a game the next?
GARDNER MINSHEW: Ballers. That's what it is. They said, X go, run the go. You know what I'm saying? It's freaking awesome. It's really hard to do.
I don't know if anybody -- like, they weren't even here yesterday. They were here today. I saw them in the hotel, and then they're going and making plays. That's really cool. Hopefully it all works out for them.
