UTSA - 51, Louisiana Tech - 7
Q. Trey, you guys come away with the big win today. What was the vibe like with the guys after this one?
TREY MOORE: I mean, you got to love it. When all sides of the triangle, offense, defense, and special teams, everybody flying around, everybody executing what they need to do, games like this happen when you do that. So it was a good time.
Q. Trey, after all the tense finishes you guys have had this year, what does it mean as a team to build a lead and maintain it through the game and not have that tension down the stretch?
TREY MOORE: That's what we were talking about at halftime, how much we were up. But we couldn't take off and let them come back on us. That was the last thing we wanted.
So we had to keep our foot on the gas. Everybody execute what they had to do in the second half and make sure there's no dropoffs. Make sure we finish the game off strong.
Q. This was your best game of the year as a group. Do you feel like you showed something you haven't been able to up to this point?
TREY MOORE: I think it was one of the better games for us in terms of each side of the triangle, offense, defense, and special teams working together.
Q. You guys are very close to locking up not just a spot in the conference championship game but to be able to play it here. What does it mean to be kind of on the precipice of that at this point of the year?
TREY MOORE: It was big time. Still got a lot of stuff to take care of. Can't get ahead of ourselves. Got to lock in next week against Rice, but it's big having the advantage at home. We're going to do everything we can to get that happening.
Q. Trey, you guys came away with some turnovers today and stopped them on fourth down four times. What does that say about your defense to come out with a performance like that?
TREY MOORE: Man, it's big. It was really, you know what I'm saying, with everybody on defense. It wasn't just the ones. Whenever they got in, our other guys, they were also able to create turnovers. It's huge, man. You get turnovers like that, it's hard to lose in this league. It was good stuff.
Q. Coach Traylor said the defense didn't like the way the game finished last week. Did you guys take it a little personal with how last week played out?
TREY MOORE: That was big for us, this game, going into halftime with the lead we had. We didn't want to have another repeat of what we had last week where we gave up a lot of big plays toward the end of the game. We definitely had that mindset coming into this one.
Q. What have you guys been talking about with turnovers? Was that a big point of emphasis to get that up through the year?
TREY MOORE: We didn't create a lot of turnovers up to this point. The last couple of weeks we've been able to get some. In practice, we definitely emphasized it a lot, stripping the ball. Any way we can get a takeaway, we've been doing it in practice. So it's been translating on Saturdays.
Q. Was there something about this game that allowed you guys to do it at such a high level?
TREY MOORE: Just execution, that's all it is.
Q. And you guys were able to get a lot of the starters out early and get some extra rest. How much does that help for the rest of the year?
TREY MOORE: Not only that, the way I look at it, I love seeing as many players as we can getting on the field and get some playing time in. We work so hard, it's great to see all these players getting some playing time and doing their thing.
