LA Galaxy 3, Vancouver 1
Q. You made some really big saves. Greg was just talking about them, especially the one that came in and you were one-on-one with Vite and saved it and turned it around the other way for the goal. What are you seeing out in front of you from the defense, what do you think of the game?
JOHN McCARTHY: I thought it was a good overall performance from the group from front to back. When it's a team that's very quick and dynamic going forward like the Whitecaps are, it's just a matter of time before they get a chance. A lot of guys stepped up and made some big-time plays tonight. So it was a good all around team performance. Just happy we came away with three points on the road.
Q. You had the one where I believe you were trying to get the ball off your foot, and it got closed down and you ended up making a save. Can you talk us through that one?
Let's not talk about that one that's just one of those ones where I took too long. Probably should have hit it first time, knowing guys Brian are going to run it down your throat. So it's just a simple, play safe, play long, regroup from there, and if someone is going to yell at me for playing short it is what it is, but that's on me. Play safe. There's nothing else to it.
Q. You guys are 3-1-1 on the road, only Major League team in MLS with three wins on the road. What does it say about this team to be able to score first on the road like you did tonight, and to be able to put three goals on a team that's been playing pretty good but do it on the road?
Yeah, Vancouver is a very good team. Like you said, they had a lot of chances and stuff like that.
Our road mentality, obviously we are trying to be very competitive, compete, stick to the game plan, and buy in as a collective group and I think you see that in this group. Everyone puts a shift in. Whether somebody has to run back and make a 90-minute clearance or somebody has to step up and score a goal from us. There's a lot of good guys on this team. It's a great group, and we are really a collective group come together.
Q. Really good victory today. The one blemish unfortunately was the set piece goal. From your perspective, what's the issue there, and what have you seen that's maybe led to you guys giving up a good amount of set piece goals?
Yeah, I haven't watched it back yet so all I know is that -- from what I remember, is just seeing Brian go up and win it. It was a tough one to swallow, especially going up one on the road; and you go 1-1 on set pieces, it's always a frustrating one.
But got to go back, rewatch. It I think this group, we'll get together and figure it out. We don't have a choice. Just have to buy into. It figure it out. I haven't watched it back. So I can't really chime in besides I think it was a pretty good header from Bri.
Q. The lead up to the game, Greg spoke a lot about patience. After last week's setback at El Tráfico, do you feel like you guys got that reaction from the team, and you guys were more patient in speak seeking the game?
Yeah, definitely great way to bounce back against LAFC. Two games on the road. We were hoping to get a point there late in the game but didn't work out
I think the patience thing definitely kicked in for us in this game. I think one or two extra paces, getting moving side-to-side, just trying to work the ball a little more playing two-touch. I think the guys did really well with the game plan and bought into it and I think you saw the patience. Because we knew that if you just -- one or two extra paces, hopefully something good will come and open up for you, and I think the guys did great with that tonight.
