LA Galaxy 3, Vancouver 1
Q. Just what felt good today, what felt different about the last couple of games you've had, and also, too, just can you talk about just having Riqui there as well to feed you some really good through balls on your goal contributions tonight?
JOSEPH PAINTSIL: I think first of all, I really give thanks to God, and secondly with the team because we did everything together to achieve these three points, not only me, but kudos to the coaches and to the staff and to everybody that puts in hard work, and the players also having these three points.
We have been playing really good the start of the season, and nothing has really changed. The last game that we had against LAFC was a good game but was a decisive game through the referees, also. That did not really discourage us. We still have the momentum as you can see. Our forward liners are really sharp. Having Riqui and the rest of them behind Riqui, it's really amazing.
And as you can see as time goes on, the points are really becoming stronger and stronger and you can see in today's game, also we dominated and we had all the balls and did what we have to do as a team and what the coach really told us to do, that's exactly what we did. Because they are a team that always gives to the midfielder and they throw the long balls and they run behind, and that's what we decided, to stop it, and as you can see we did, and in order to eradicate the long balls we had possession of the balls. It was really great team ball together for us to achieve these three points.
Q. Earlier this week MLS put out a list of the MVP frontrunners, and your name was on there. Is that something that you're aiming for and is that something that you feel that you can achieve in your first season in the League?
Yeah, it's something that every player would love to be that, to achieve. But first of all, we have a long season. My focus is really with the team. Whatever happens with MVP, goals and assists and everything, first it's the team, and the more the team succeeds, the more the player succeeds.
Me being there and finding my name there say plus for me and makes me happy and makes me work harder, especially working harder for the club is the most important thing to achieve what we need to achieve. Because if the club achieve good things and good points and playing good all games, we all achieve together and as an individual, it also counts for us also.
Q. Greg was talking about how he was putting you in a little different position last couple games, maybe especially this one. Moving over next to Gabriel Peck, as well. Do you like playing in that position? Obviously your goal and your assists come whenever you move back outside a little bit wider but what are the advantages there for you?
It's a lot of advantages because we have Gabriel who is really a fantastic player, really technical and really a great player. As you can see, he did also what he needs to do, and me playing at the right side, it's something that I've always been playing also in my ex-team. It's something that I'm used to. You can see that we are also playing three backs but what we needed to do is just to pin the defenders and be in between them, as me and Dejan to pin them so that they cannot move forward, so that we can have the space to run behind them.
And as you can see whenever we do a switch, that it's really open for us to do the run especially on my side. So it's really a plus and really a good momentum for us that we did what we have to do especially what the coach told us to do.
Yeah, everybody did his part as an individual and as a player, and yeah, we are really happy that this trip went as it has and we are going home with these three points.
Q. But you guys now have three wins on the road, 3-1-1 on the road and you've played five road games and you have the best road record in Major League Soccer. What does it mean to come into a place that is not very friendly to the LA Galaxy and get three points on the road?
Yeah, first of all they told us it's a place -- it's really a place that is not easy to play. As you can see, it's also a tough pitch. I was told to see how the pitch is. The coach also talks about how the pitch is. But what we have to do is just to keep the ball keep moving. The more we keep the ball moving, there will be more movement for to us break through.
So the coach did whatever they need to do and what they did and what they told us in training is exactly what happens in the game of play, and yeah, it's really a great goal to get together with the player and everyone.
