LA Galaxy 4, San Jose 3
Q. Playing a bunch of different positions this year seemed like, right back, center back, anywhere Greg needs to put you. What did you feel at right back and is it something that you think you would like to do again?
I don't want to take anything away from Cuevas, he's been training behind Mickey and it's unfortunate he got sick at the time that he did. But someone needed to step up and he wanted me to play that position, so I had to. And to be honest, I felt comfortable. I did my role. I played how I needed to play and the other guys did their thing. I'm just happy to contribute to this win.
Q. In that first half, you guys were moving the ball with speed, and that's something Greg has talked about a lot, being able to open things up. You contributed even from the right back position. Where do you see the ceiling for this team when you guys play like that?
I think we can give a lot of times a high dynamic, we move -- when the ball is moving at the speed that it should be. When everybody is in their right spots, I think when teams try to put pressure, we find ways to play around them pretty easy. And then finishing our chances. I think if we put all our chances away, we could have a lot more goals. But that's something that, you know, we are going to keep working on, and defensively, stop letting teams into the game.
A lot of times defensively we are caught in spots that we are not supposed to be in just because we are attacking and we think we can kill teams like that. So just being responsible in that time.
Q. Greg said you started as a winger, through the Dallas system?
When I was with Lugi, U-16, I played as a winger, the whole U-16 year.
Q. When did you start moving over to more of a central defender?
It was my first year on the U-18s was when I -- it was like during tryouts and we had other guys coming in. We had to get in our positions and I put myself with the midfielders because that's where I feel the most comfortable, and yeah, that's where I started playing the six.
Q. And you guys are up 3-0, and then 4-1. Did you sense -- when did you sense things might get a little crazy in this game?
I think it goes back to his question, and you know, it's on us to move the ball at the speed that it should be, and keep creating chances. Keep putting the pressure on, and we did that. We scored the first goal in the second half, and then any momentum that they could latch on to, they are going to.
You know, the second goal comes. We make subs, and then there's that play with the red card that, again, we just let teams keep being in the game. You know, they are going to live off that. Everybody put in the work. The guys that came in did a good job and closed the game out.
Q. That's two wins over the Earthquakes in real quick time here. First place in the League. Do you have any message for the fans here in Los Angeles?
I think we needed to respond in this class could he. It was unfortunate the way El Tráfico
went. It was tough to take our first loss in that game, so we wanted to respond, not only in last week's game but in this week that the class could he means a lot to our fans, and to us, too. And we had to come out and get the win for them and keep this team at the top.
Q. When you were playing on the wing, you were playing higher up on the wing?
Yes.
Q. Going into the right back position, and especially as Greg wanted you to play, it was a little bit more of a stay-at-home, managing space position. What were the biggest challenges you found, and when you were down to ten men did the challenges change?
I think in the first half, when they did kind of press us in an organized way, we should have looked -- or I should have looked more behind just with the speed that we have with Joseph on that right side. But I'm just not one to kick the ball long. So I tried to keep possession and move the ball as much as I did.
And then when we go 4-2, obviously they think they have some life in them, and it goes back again to that play where we give away the PK, and we just make it hard for ourselves.
