LA Galaxy 3, Charlotte 0
Q. Novak, just your thoughts on the first four games of the season. The group seemed to be, would you say, more detailed and focused on the defensive end compared to last year?
NOVAK MICOVIC: I mean, in the pre-season we work a lot on offensively and we learn about last year. You know, I think we did great job first four games defensively and offensively also. We try to keep going like this, and it's not going to be a problem.
Q. What exactly did you work on in the pre-season?
NOVAK MICOVIC: Like we worked to know each other, to know where need to be, Jakob need to be, Maya, Emiro. It's doesn't matter who is playing, we want to make more relationship between each other defensively.
Q. Having Glesnes come in and really buoy the back line, I mean there were 66 goals given up last year. I know you know that.
NOVAK MICOVIC: Yeah.
Q. How does it feel to be what I think most people are calling the LA Galaxy a defensive team right now?
NOVAK MICOVIC: For me I want to be first defensive team, more defensive than offensive. We try to do this this year. We have Jakob now. Jakob, he was best defender last year and it's mean a lot for us.
First he's a great guy, and I mean, he need -- we need to be together like today, compact behind the ball, and it's not going to be a problem.
Q. And just looking at how this team defends as a unit this year, does it feel like when you guys score a goal that's it, that you feel like the game is over?
NOVAK MICOVIC: I have one save in two games, so it's obviously we defend a lot better than last year. Yeah, I would say.
Q. Last season we spoke to former LA Galaxy goalkeeper, Coach Daniel Gonzalez. I don't know if you know him. It was during the offseason after Glesnes was signed. I asked him how does it change the way a goalkeeper plays to have someone like Glesnes in front of him. He gave a perspective, but he's not the one playing behind him, so I wanted to ask you, is there something specifically that you change in your game? Maybe you don't come always for a punch because you have him in front of you. Is there anything specifically that changes in your game?
NOVAK MICOVIC: Today you have my a Maya Yoshida who has played like five World Cups and you have Jakob who has played this league like seven years, I don't know how many.
If I know in front of me I have two defenders like them, it's so easy for me to follow the game and follow the defensive stuff.
Q. We been talking a lot, defense, defense, defense. Just spoke with Greg. What was it like when you got the news that Galaxy were going to be a defense first team? Did that fill you with confidence?
NOVAK MICOVIC: I feel, first time goalkeeper I like to keep more clean sheets and be more defensive team. This year is going to be that year, that we going to make more clean sheet than last year.
Also we want to score the goals. We have one of the best wingers in the league and we want to keep going like today. Score a lot of goals and keep clean sheet.
Q. It's important to keep the clean sheet, not give up a lot defensively. When I played as a goalkeeper, I almost hated games like that where there was nothing to do. You wish something would come your way?
NOVAK MICOVIC: I mean, clean sheet is clean sheet. I don't care. Clean sheet is clean sheet.
Q. You said we have one of the best wingers in the league. Which one is it?
NOVAK MICOVIC: Both.
