Hawks 136, Wizards 108
Q. We were talking to Wes about the turnovers. What do you think was the common thread between them?
LANDRY SHAMET: Common thread with the turnovers? I don't know if there was one common thread. I think it was just one of those nights. It didn't feel like we had much of a punch right away. The energy in the building was down, and that's when you've got to be able to create some energy for yourself, and we never did that.
Got a little sloppy, lazy with some of our actions, not very crisp, just turnovers are going to happen when that happens.
Q. As you guys navigate this losing streak, what do you think needs to change for you guys to break it and get a victory?
LANDRY SHAMET: I don't know. I think the overall just approach we had, I guess Milwaukee, was one that was really competitive and in tune with the game from the first tip. I think sometimes we've shown that that's not always a constant this year, and that's just kind of part of this stretch we're on, I guess.
I think that's what it takes to win in this league. You don't just show up and win games. It's hard to win. Being able to come out and play the right way, be competitive, locked into the scouting report. There's a lot that asked of you. But that's our job, to have to go out and try to do that.
I think that's the biggest piece.
Q. On the Milwaukee game, is it discouraging to come off two really good performances as a team, one-possession losses, to a different kind of loss tonight?
LANDRY SHAMET: Yeah, tonight, yeah. You don't like losing like we did tonight. If we're going to be losing, I can live with a game like Milwaukee where we didn't kick the game away down the stretch and blow a big lead. Not to mention just get blown out.
If you're competitive, like I said, we put ourselves in a position to win that game, and there's a lot more learning that you can take from that than just coming out flat, no energy, not really executing or being as locked in as we should be. They're different losses.
You can't get hung up on it or too frustrated. There's a lot of games we play, and we're right back to it in a couple days.
Q. Coming off the bench, do you take the responsibility when Gallo is out to rally the bench team together?
LANDRY SHAMET: Whether he's in or out, I feel like whoever is in or out, I feel like my job is the same and one I take pride in, try to teach and lead and do what I can, what I see fit. It doesn't really change whether Gallo is in or out.
Q. How do you personally move on from a game like this, flush it down the toilet and get ready for the next one on Monday?
LANDRY SHAMET: You said it. Sometimes it's as simple as that. We play 82 of them, and you can't sit and loathe -- especially one like that where there's not a lot of highlights to take from it. Why spend too much time on it. Let's move on. If you chalk it up to just your effort, whether or not you were locked in, you can control that and change that tomorrow. That's my approach, and we'll do our best to carry that over.
Q. Jared Butler ended up being the leading scorer for you guys tonight. What was it like seeing him seize the opportunity?
LANDRY SHAMET: Yeah, you're happy for him in those moments, take advantage of some minutes, and he works really hard. Great kid. Always really high energy, in tune with the game on the bench. When he gets his opportunity, it's good to see him play well.
Q. You were injured to start the season, and now it feels like your minutes and usage are ramping up game by game. What's your comfort level now with this team?
LANDRY SHAMET: Very comfortable. Just feel like I'm in a good spot just from a physique standpoint, I'm in good shape, know the game. I feel like I have a lot to contribute to this group, and not only helping us try to win games but learning and growing. That feels good.
Q. You've had several poster dunks this season; has that always been an aspect of your game you've been proud of?
LANDRY SHAMET: Yeah, yeah. It doesn't really get brought to light much, but that's okay. It can stay that way.
