Kyle Kuzma

Media Conference

Q. What did this win mean to you and your team?

KYLE KUZMA: Man, a lot. A little emotionally drained right now. It meant a lot for us to pick that up, being in a big slump for a long time. We came in at halftime only up three after playing pretty well in the first half. We had some good tension in the locker room. Guys kind of going back at forth at each other. I think that really sparked us.

We came together as a team tonight in that second half after maybe six to five rough minutes to start the third. Really just put everything together defensively, offensively.

I'm just happy for everybody in the locker room to get that dub.

Q. Were you aware you prevented it becoming a franchise record losing streak?

KYLE KUZMA: No, not at all. Not at all. That's the first time I heard of that actually.

Q. What was the relief like? Brian talks about the process being more important than the result. To get a positive result...

KYLE KUZMA: Yeah, you know, I mean, for sure. I think tonight we got a win, but over those 15 games I can name you probably five or six games where we actually played better and still lost.

It's definitely a sign of relief because it's tough to lose that many games in a row. At one point you kind of get a little numb to it. You got to think about the next game, especially in this league.

I think I said it last game, but it's 82 games. You can't really dwell on things. We just stuck with it and kept together, kept together. I think that's one thing. It's very tough to do when you start losing a bunch of games, it's easy to point the finger. I think we stayed with each other throughout this entire time.

Like I said, I'm just proud and happy for everyone to get out of that ditch that we were in, so...

Q. How was it for Richaun to right the defense in the third and fourth?

KYLE KUZMA: I mean, huge. We're down bodies. We're already a very small unit, small ballclub. He played probably one of his better games, probably his best game as a Wizard tonight. He was huge for us down the stretch rebounding, offensive rebounding, timely pick-and-rolls, timely put-backs. Really proud of him.

Q. What was there in the fourth quarter that wasn't necessarily in the third?

KYLE KUZMA: I think defensively we got our stops. We made some threes. We didn't shoot it well all night, whether it was three or at the rim, yeah.

Q. You're a big fan of Anthony Gill. He's gotten some shout-outs for the way he changed the energy of the game. What was your perspective on the minutes he gave you guys?

KYLE KUZMA: Great minutes. I don't know how many minutes he played. He played seven minutes. No, played two minutes. I guess he was a negative three, so I guess it didn't matter, right?

No, he changed the game. You look at a box score, doesn't matter. Just his energy. Came in, right away got a basket, got a stop. Came out the game. He's just the ultimate professional. He's a great north star for all of us as a man, so...
