Coach Brian Keefe

Media Conference

Pistons 130, Wizards 117

Q. What do you think made the difference for them tonight?

BRIAN KEEFE: Points in the paint. I think in the third quarter they got a little separation from us. We took some tough shots. They were switching. They were physical. They got us into the end of the shot clock a little bit. Didn't like some of those shots. Then they were able to get some easy ones there in the third and in the paint. I think that was the big difference.

Q. What have you made of this recent stretch for Tre Johnson and his shooting which has fluctuated a little bit?

BRIAN KEEFE: No concerns. Sometimes guys go through little blips on the radar along the season. I trust the work, trust the process. He's a great shooter. Three or four games ago, he was banging threes down, so he'll come out of this, no worries in that.

Q. Bub had a pretty good night for himself. Similar to Tre, he's had his ups and downs with his shot. What do you attribute his night to?

BRIAN KEEFE: Just continuing to take the shots that are there for him. I thought he had some good looks there in transition. We had him off the ball a little bit playing with Sharife. Jamir got him a good one there late in the game. We run a little play out of an ATO. Just being aggressive. He's a good shooter off the catch, off the bounce. A pretty elite guy for that. Just continued to be aggressive, and he was aggressive tonight.

Q. Obviously with you guys being undermanned and a bit undersized, what did you make of the way that you guys still competed defensively? I know you mentioned the way they were able to get in the paint, but it's one thing to not even put up a fight. It seemed like you guys still put up the fight with what you had.

BRIAN KEEFE: I liked our intensity, especially on the second night of a back to back. These guys brought it. Obviously we're undersized and we never even talk about that stuff in our locker room. We cut it, made a little burst made, made them call a time-out. But just too much of a deficit in the paint. The paint numbers really hurt us tonight.

Q. Is Tre Johnson still on a minutes restriction?

BRIAN KEEFE: Yes.

Q. Is that related to the ankle that he had, that he turned however many weeks ago?

BRIAN KEEFE: There's a lot of ailments going around, so I'll have to check the list, but yeah, he's still on a minute restriction.

Q. With regard to Trae Young, I apologize if this was determined last night. Is his current quad contusion considered a week to week?

BRIAN KEEFE: Still evaluating, still going through the process of that. Obviously we knew he wasn't going to play tonight. We'll have some more information as we go.

Q. Coach, just with Bub overall, what have you seen growth-wise throughout the season and what do you want to see him keep working on as well?

BRIAN KEEFE: I think Bub has had a good year. He's really commanded our second unit for a lot of this year, and our second unit was very positive for a long time. He's learned how to control the game offensively. I like his physicality defensively. He's gotten more disruptions as the season has gone along, and the shooting has been there. Keep growing. We're going to put our guys in positions to learn and grow. He had a terrific night tonight and he played a little bit off the ball. Sometimes he's going to have the ball more, and he was a little bit off it tonight, and I thought he was aggressive looking for his shot because that's what we needed him to do tonight. He's learning what the game needs for him to do, and some nights are different. Tonight he was aggressive with his shot, and that was helpful for us.
