Q. How did you find the course?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Good. I played well. The course, there was some wind but nothing significant. I was able to keep the ball in front of me. Avoided the bunkers, which is a key off the tee. Made some putts at the end. Overall hit it pretty good.
Q. Do you notice the scoreboard? Did you give yourself a chance to look at that is this?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Absolutely. It's Thursday. You can enjoy seeing yourself up on the leaderboard. Overall it was fun. Our group played very well. It's good when you're playing partner is playing good so you can see how there's a lot of birdies out there.
Q. May not be typical but what is it like playing here in Scotland?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: I don't know if we are going to get lucky two weeks in a row, but looks like it's going to be great the rest of of the week. I've had a lot of fun.
Q. Looking ahead, how much are you looking forward to tomorrow and what the weekend could possibly bring?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Yeah, playing well, scoring well, which is important. Hope to keep going and see where we stand on Sunday.
Q. Opening 64, really good start. Let's go to that stretch of 14 through 16, three straight birdies. What did you feel about your game there?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: There was some momentum going. I was hitting the ball well. I was keeping it in play, hitting from the fairway, hitting good shots. It's key to hit the fairways because from the rough the ball doesn't have any spin and it could roll on the greens, bounce really hard. I was able to do that and give myself looks and I was able to convert.
Q. How do you feel your game is rounding into form as we get toward the finish, coming off a tie for sixth in Detroit a couple weeks ago?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Good. We found a couple things after the U.S. Open. I didn't have a very good U.S. Open and we found a couple things with my coach on the swing, and we worked along that line and doing the same drills.
I like consistency in drills where I can focus on one thing and squeeze that feeling, and that's what we've been doing the last few weeks.
Q. Anything specific about your swing?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Just the way my hips work. I tend to not get to my left side. So I fight a fade or a slice on the bad days, and we've been hitting a lot of draws on the range. I think it's good to hit draws out here with the wind just to keep the spin a little down.
Q. Your second time playing links golf --
NICO ECHAVARRIA: You've got to get creative. There's different ways of playing the shots. Last year I struggled with the turf. I wasn't able to compress my arms and hit the numbers. I was short all time on second shots, and I've learned how to hit the ball a little better, I think, and it's key out here to compress the ball and hit it solid.
