Q. 64in your first round here at the Genesis Scottish Open. Must be pleased with that start.
VICTOR PEREZ: Yeah, very happy. I think I probably had a little bit more practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday than I usually do because last year I was fortunate to play a little bit better on the PGA TOUR and come back to the UK two weeks early and have time to familiarise myself with speed of the greens, bounds, the rough, fliers, everything that comes with links golf, which I wasn't able to do. I just came straight from John Deere on the charter flight, get in Monday.
So I was able to get a decent amount of work in, especially on the greens. That's definitely the biggest adjustment, just getting used to the speed of the greens, kind of committing to hitting them maybe a little bit harder than we're used to.
But, yeah, I was able to do that a lot today.
Q. It paid off, though. Four birdies in the last five holes?
VICTOR PEREZ: Like I was saying earlier, I think there's definitely two stretches on this course. I think the first five is a stretch. I mean, having been playing here so much, the first five of the stretch, you want to try to get off to a good start, especially with the west wind where you get the first and the third downwind, and then obviously there's a stretch towards the back, 13, 14, 15, 16, again, some chances.
So I was able to do that, which is kind of what you have do on this course. It's really difficult to get birdies on some of the hard holes because the greens are firmer and the wind, and you're not really sure where it's coming from.
So, yeah, really happy with the end, obviously.
Q. This is home away from home for you. You always feel very comfortable around here. And of course a top ten here last year.
VICTOR PEREZ: Yeah, played well on this course, I think the course knowledge, played well. Dunhill Links was my first win in 2019. I've always kind of enjoyed keeping the ball down and long putts from off the green. I think it may play in my hand a little bit better with what I'm good at.
So, yeah, enjoyed a very good first day, but a lot of golf left.
