Quick Quotes

Q. 66 to start a tournament always feels good, especially at Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship. How was that?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it was a good day. Felt like I played really well. Drove the ball really well. Just gave myself plenty of chances and putted well. Overall, it was a really solid day.

Q. Seems as tricky as ever, other than the rough being up in areas, looks like there's a real premium to leaving the ball on the right side of the pin.

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. I think the greens are maybe a hair firmer than they have been the last couple years. Obviously like you say, the rough's up. I think it's a little bit longer in places than it should be but you know, the golf course is in fantastic shape. It really is. Every year we come here, it seems to get better, and I just think, you know, the setup the Tour have putt for us is second-to-none.

Q. What's it like playing back here with the home crowd around you?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it's lovely. It's really nice. The English golf fans I feel like know the game so well. Just, you know, they applaud a good shot and poor shots you know about it, too. So yeah, it's great to be here.

Q. Is it on your mind what's needed to be done this week with your teammates in your group?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Not really. I'm here to try to win this week. I'll start focusing on The Ryder Cup once Sunday finishes. This week we're here to play as well as we can and see what we can do.
