Q. Good opening round to the Senior British Open Presented by Rolex. Got out in 31, what were you feeling at that point?
THOMAS BJØRN: I played really, really well on the front nine, the way you want to play this golf course. I had a bad three-putt on first but other than that it was really just solid. Hit it all the time in the right places and gave myself some chances.
I hit some poor tee shots on the back nine. As soon as you're out of position, you're struggling, sometimes even to make bogey, and the putter really saved me on the back nine to be honest to keep it at 2-under. So yeah, it was one of those days.
Q. Wait, the putter saved you, you were talking about the heebie jeebies last week at The Open that you had to putt when you got to the green. The putter is your friend today?
THOMAS BJØRN: It was good today. It was nice. Rolled in a few good ones and felt pretty comfortable on the greens in general. First round down.
Q. I think it's the fact that you were stuck with a microphone and us last week that inspired you to play well. Kidding aside, what are you looking for the rest of the week?
THOMAS BJØRN: You've got to get in there. It's a long time since I've played with these guys. Those are the guys you've been trying to beat your whole career. You want to get your nose in and try and have another go at them.
This is what this is all about. It's a wonderful golf tournament and a wonderful golf course. It just gives you a little bit of a spark. It's tough to play main tour stuff a lot. You're playing with youngsters that play a different game.
These guys play the same game as usually. Now it's a level playing field. Now you're trying to do the same things and score the same kind of way. No, get your nose in there and try and beat them.
