Quick Quotes

Q. First round here at The Senior Open Championship, 66. How do you evaluate today's round?

JOE DURANT: Very early to start. I might have slept the first nine. I was 4-under on the front. This is just such a wonderful venue for this tournament.

I was very happy with how I played today. Drove it nicely. Iron game could have been a little better. Putted beautifully most of the day. So I'm very happy with the 4-under today.

Q. A hot start eagle on 1 and birdies on 3 and 4.

JOE DURANT: Yeah, I hit it really close on 1. I had about a 30-footer for eagle. Made a nice putt. 12-footer or so on three. Made a downhill slider from about 20 feet on 4. Nice way to get out of the blocks early. Really challenging course. You have to drive it well. The bunkers are very severe. If you get up against the faces, it's almost a once-shot penalty.

Q. It is a favourite course for a lot of players. How do you evaluate it evolving as the week goes on?

JOE DURANT: With no rain or get a little wind, it's going to dry out some and play faster. It's a little soft right now. So it doesn't take too much for that to change. I'm not going to wish too much as far as getting too much faster. It's just a wonderful venue. It has such a great variety of holes, two par 5s.

So it may look a little short on the card but as a 70, it plays plenty long enough, for me, anyway.
