Q. Your thoughts on the Kings Course here at the Home of Golf, and how much are you looking forward to competing this week?
STEVEN ALKER: Yeah, I love this place. Just the countryside and the golf course itself, the shape. It's in great shape. And you know, I was here, four years ago, five years ago, and it was my first Senior Open and I played well.
I love the golf course. So it's great to be back. My boy goes to school up in Stirling, just up the road, so it feels like home a little bit.
Q. We are fresh off the back of some Kiwi success. Can you sum up your thoughts on Ryan Fox's triumph?
STEVEN ALKER: In a way, not surprised. I mean, he's a very big player. He's won some big events. He's been playing well of late.
But to see him finish that way and finish it off, the three shots down 18 was spectacular. In New Zealand, it was probably five in the morning back home or something. I think everybody was probably rooting for him.
Just to see that -- we've only had like three major champions, so to have another one is very special. I'm so proud of him. The way he finished was fantastic.
Q. New Zealand golf is in a great spot. The future is bright for Kiwi golf. What could this do for sport in New Zealand?
STEVEN ALKER: I think it's always been there. It's the new case of players we've got is getting bigger. It's just a matter of them coming through.
Obviously it's far New Zealand, so you have to travel and you're either playing U.S. Tour or DP World Tour. We need a little more support to those guys out playing and competing more. I think the players are there. With what Ryan's done, I think the profile is just going to lift it, and we are going to get more guys coming through, and girls, too.
Q. How much would be being raised by one of the greatest All Blacks in Grant Fox help in intense moments, and is that relentless determination part of the Kiwi mentality?
STEVEN ALKER: I think it is. It's just part of the mentality. Take the opportunities when you can. But to have that, it's just in the blood with the whole Fox family. If you go back, I think his grandfather played some cricket, I believe, or something.
Yeah, it's just in the blood. One of those lessons you got as a young kid. He's kind of a late bloomer but he's obviously doing some good stuff, and it's great to see.
Q. You've had some major success in the past. How great would it be to add another Kiwi victory this week?
STEVEN ALKER: It would be fantastic. My wife is English. I'm kind of going after this one. This is one I'd really like to win. It's just a matter of just play my game and try to get in the zone, and as I said, I like the golf course, and it would be very special to win.
