Quick Quotes

Q. Rounds of 70, very good work given some of the trying conditions you were experiencing at times today.

PAUL BROADHURST: Yeah, we got off to a great start. 2, 3, 4 are going to be the tough holes, and I played them great and made birdies on a couple of them. 4-under after eight, thinking, yeah, you know, so 1-under is a little bit disappointing.

But I played great the front nine and then drove it great the back nine. I missed a couple of 4-footers for bogeys on a few holes. On 18 and just lost it a little bit left into the rough and it settled. I could have hit driver off this lie it was so high. Hit 6-iron just kind of at the top and carried the front trap. Made birdie on the last which is a bit of a gimmie hole at the moment. Guys are hitting 7-, 8-iron in this afternoon, but as I say, you can't lose it today -- or you can lose it today, sorry, but you can't win it. It's been a while since I've been in that position.

But you know, you want to get off to a decent start, and I've done that.

Q. After this, you kind of can judge the mood of the field as it starts. Sometimes there's guys out there trying to get as many birdies as possible and guys trying to keep bogeys off the card. What was it like for you today with that respect?

PAUL BROADHURST: Early on, 2, 3, 4, were playing pretty tough. So I played those well, and then sort of 6, 7, 8, you know, we've got chances there. Then 9 is a tough one, and 10 was sort of semi-chance, and so is 11.

Then we played 14, 15, 16, back into the wind in the -- you know, in the miserable rain and they played monstrous. We played 14, and none of us could reach it. I mean, it's okay now. It's cleared up a little bit now. If you get one of those little showers into the wind as well, it's playing monstrous on some holes.

Q. It's tough when we look back on 2014 and 2017 to use those years as a barometer for the scoring weekend we can expect. Do you have any idea in mind?

PAUL BROADHURST: I suppose 4-under on Sunday, if he does that, I mean, anything under par is going to have a hell of a chance I would think. 30-, 40-mile-an-hour around here, you'd think 75 would be a good score.

Like I say, it's tough to predict. It really depends on the weather. If the weather lies down, there's a score to be had. We saw that on the Saturday last year. I think I was 4- or 5-under on the Saturday, but the other three days, you were just hanging on. It's that sort of course. If the wind drops, then the scoring will be decent. But as long as it stays up, the scoring will remain high.
