Quick Quotes

Q. 68 today, must have felt like a 65 in those conditions. How would you evaluate today's round and the week so far?

GREIG HUTCHEON: Yeah, I mean, the conditions were really hard today. Although I think we had a bit of a lull at the start of the round be maybe when the tide was turning, but certainly it's picked up pretty severely at the end. But was pleased with that score.

Q. How do you take to the links courses usually?

GREIG HUTCHEON: Yeah, I've obviously played a lot of links golf in my life. I was born in Aberdeen, born in a hooley, as they say, but I'm certainly no expert at it.

Q. You've made your way into some prestigious tournaments, especially 2022. How does this week compare to them?

GREIG HUTCHEON: Incredible. I mean, I only once managed to qualify for The Open, so I suppose technically, this is only my second major.

Yeah, a very good start today. I kind of noticed my name on the leaderboard out of the corner of my eye, and I think I might have got a little bit of leaderboard altitude sickness and had a really nervy three-putt on 7.

But I steadied myself and I played quite well. You can only do your best, and some holes are just so difficult, you can hit good shots and you just get into trouble in the fairway bunkers and so on.

So I think you've just got to be prepared to make bogeys, especially when the wind gets like this.

Q. Well, the wind is going to he love a little as the week goes on, 25, 30 miles an hour on average, maybe even north of that. Do you relish that opportunity?

GREIG HUTCHEON: On the Tartan Tour in Scotland, we have played in a lot of conditions like that. Yeah, the Skibo Pro-Am, they are famous for brushing the greens; it gets so windy, just to keep it playable.

So I have played in some of these conditions, but "relish," I don't know if I would use that word.

Q. 2014, 2017, we had the Senior Open Championship here. It's hard to use those to years as a barometer for what scoring should be. Is there anywhere you would like to see yourself after tomorrow going into Sunday?

GREIG HUTCHEON: No. As you say, the weather forecast is pretty brutal. I think the leaders are on four. The weather, if it does start gusting 35 and so on, there's a chance level par could win the golf tournament.
