Quick Quotes

Q. You've had a great year, third in Masters, you won in Dubai, and Silver Medal in the Olympics. How do you rate this year?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Can always be better, I think. I've had my good moments and I've played a lot of good, consistent golf. It's nice when you highlight some of the good stuff like that but still, plenty of the year ahead.

Yeah, I'll be happy with what we've achieved while looking for more as we finish the year.

Q. And happy to be back in Madrid?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Very happy. Beautiful city. We have quite a few friends that live here, and yeah, it's always such a beautiful feeling when you come back to Europe and in a city like Madrid at a golf course like this. I think it's everything that is great about coming back to this tour.

Q. How much are you looking forward to this week in Madrid?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Very much. So beautiful tournament. Historical event. Great golf course. Great European city. Feels good to be back and playing this event.

Q. It has a rich heritage here in Spain. How much do you enjoy coming back last year to play?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Well, I think it's everything that's great about Europe and this tour. It's an old event. It's a beautiful trophy. The course is great, very challenging. Excited to be here and test myself and playing with, again, so many familiar faces from the over the years. So many great things about it.

Q. Coming off Wentworth last week, where is the game at the moment?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I wasn't very happy with my game last week. I played well on Thursday and gradually felt like my game was getting worse throughout the week. There were certain things I had to work on. Over the past couple days, it's gotten better and better. Golf is a stupid game in a way. I feel like I was really struggling on Sunday, shoot 5-under, and then you have a good result. Like, 12th is a very good result. The game is just silly that way.

Overall, doing a lot of good things and I've been very consistent throughout the year. Looking forward to continuing to play and see what we can do this week.

Q. You started off the season with the win in Dubai, and you said there's been some good signs. Do you think there could be a win close for you?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, I think you never know what's around the corner in the game. One of the things that I've been sort of disappointed with this year, I played really, really well, and I've played at a high, consistent level but I've always been like half a step behind, if you like, from contending on a Sunday, and I'd love to have been up there just a bit more but that can change at any given time, and I think, yeah, as long as I keep doing the things that I believe in, I'm sure that can change.

Yeah, a win could be around the corner at any time.

Q. What are your thoughts about this track?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: You have to play well. It is a very old school track. Can't Lyle overpower it but I think if you hit it well off the tee and you're constantly putting the ball in play, you're going to be given a lot of chances. But I think you're going to get punished for poor golf. And I think that's the way tournament golf should be. Once you're slightly off, you're going to struggle and you have to use different skills.

Q. Sustainability is a big part of the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid. How important is that to you?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: As golfers, we try to do everything we can and Acciona is leading the way in that sustainability. To be part of that is great, and yeah, we'll continue to try to do everything we can.
