Q. 5-under 66 today. Can you talk me through how you felt out there today?
PATRICK REED: I felt a little better today than yesterday. Driver was still a little uneasy out there. Didn't hit as many fairways as I was hoping but good thing is my irons were solid and because that have I was kind of able to get the ball around the hole and make some putts. That was the key and the difference from yesterday. Obviously it was windy yesterday but today, going out there, fresher greens, having a better chance of making some putts.
But yeah, as a whole, at the moment, I think the leader is at 9. So four back, but he has a couple holes coming in, so who knows what that gets to. The thing is, put ourselves in a decent position going into tomorrow.
You just never know what the weather does here, if it decides to blow or how the golf course turns out, firm and fast.
But as a whole, I would say irons are definitely improving. Need to figure out how far the ball is going. I've hit so far 2-iron shots off line, which is a good thing, because I mean, if all you have to do is figure out the distance it's a lot easier than figuring out direction. Need to get driver into play.
Q. How have you been enjoying Madrid and being back in Spain and playing here?
PATRICK REED: It's always fun coming here. First time in Madrid. Been in Valderrama for the past two years which has been outstanding. So when I was coming here, I had big hopes and hoping that it was doing to be kind of the same and with just the people and the area.
It exceeded my expectations by far. The people have been absolutely outstanding and very supportive, and the town, being down there in Madrid, it's been a lot of fun. I hope to soak it up the next two days, and hopefully continue some good golf and hopefully have a chance to win the golf tournament.
