Quick Quotes

Q. Your first win on the DP World Tour is here at your National Open in Spain. Describe the feelings right now?

ANGEL HIDALGO: Insane. Absolutely insane. It was really good -- I was pretty relaxed all day, even the first tee, I don't know why.

Even when I missed the short putt, or this one, hole 72, I was not discouraged that I stroked bad the ball. That's amazing. That's for everyone that was there and believed in me, and yeah, my team, my family, especially my caddie, he's my best friend. I called him last year, I was struggling a little, and I called him and he stopped playing to carry my bag. And my grandpa yesterday was 80 years, passed away a few years ago, but yesterday was his birthday.

Q. You said yesterday that Jon Rahm is the G.O.A.T. of this tournament. How proud are you that you went face-to-face with a major champion, three-time winner here, and beat him?

ANGEL HIDALGO: To be honest, on the eighth tee, I thought David Puig is going to win the tournament by eight because he was hitting amazing, and John Jon and myself made a few mistakes.

I played a pretty smart game and pretty good game and I stroked really got putter, so yeah, I'm happy. And especially with Jon, probably he's the most important player in the last 20 years or 30 years in Spain.

Q. Two years ago, you were playing on the Alps Tour. In your wildest tour, could you have imagined two years later to be here on this green winning the Spanish Open?

ANGEL HIDALGO: No. Because I was -- I don't know if it was two years ago, three years ago. I was in exactly this course, the first tee in the trees supporting Jon without playing. I just come here to Madrid to see the tournament.

To be here and win the tournament is unreal. It's unreal. Oh, my gosh. It's amazing.

Q. Your mom and dad are here?

ANGEL HIDALGO: Yes.

Q. How important is it for you to win your National Open in front of them?

ANGEL HIDALGO: Yeah, amazing. My best friend, Paco, and coach, Jordie, and my parents travelled this morning by train to be here for the tournament.

So yeah, it's so important. I wish my brother was here. But I will be happy to call him. Probably he cries more than me knowing him. Yeah, that's for us.
