Q. A homecoming event after a successful away Ryder Cup. What are your thoughts and feelings heading into this week?
JON RAHM: I go from -- it's possibly two of the most motional weeks for me, right. Being part of a Ryder Cup is something so unique, so special, especially winning away. It's incredible. It's an incredible feeling. But then coming to Spain, an event that matters so much to me, hoping to win for the fourth time.
Hard to put it into words, right. May not be the biggest event in the world but to me it's one of the biggest.
Q. What's it like returning to Europe after winning that away Ryder Cup?
JON RAHM: It is very weird being congratulated for something that I didn't just do myself, right. Like when I get thank yous and congratulations, I wish we were all together because we all deserve it, right. It wasn't just me. I only contributed three points out of 15, right, and all of those three with a partner.
So it's an odd feeling, but it's very nice to be able to give that to European golf.
Q. And having a home event so close after doing that, is that a huge positive for you and your game? What can you do this week?
JON RAHM: I would say after watching Bob MacIntyre win in Scotland it's a huge positive, yeah. From going to having the crowd against us to having everybody cheer for me is going to be very special. Massive difference, massive juxtaposition but beautiful if a different way, right.
I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to hopefully getting that fourth Spanish Open. And again, hoping to actually just perform well in front of this crowd. They have been so good to me, they have been so supportive, the least I can do is give many my best shot and hopefully I'm there on Sunday to win it.
Q. You came so close to your fourth last year, a fourth win to surpass Seve, one closer to the record. What's motivating you most this week?
JON RAHM: I would say exactly that, right, trying to get that fourth. Getting one step closer to eventually possibly getting to No. 6. I was able to get three very, very fast, and it's never easy, and I'm hoping I can do sooner than later. But just focusing on that, hopefully getting that fourth.
Q. What stands out to you most about the course?
JON RAHM: It's an old school design, right. It's not long with very small greens and supposed to be a lot narrower and a lot of trees, but unfortunately due to weather in the last few years, very hot summers and very bad storms in winter, because Madrid gets both. They lost quite a few of the trees that you need on this golf course to be playing as hard as it can. This has unfortunately become a little bit too short.
So if we get the weather that we are supposed to have very little wind and just sunny, you're going to see some low scores, right. Every part of the game needs to be good but in my case, being as narrow as it is, it's having a good week off the tee is paramount to being able to have a good week.
