THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Sergio Garcia, the captain of Fireballs GC. You finished at 6-under. Tell us about your round.
SERGIO GARCIA: Yeah, obviously very happy with my round. My swing the last week or so hasn't been feeling amazing, so very happy to play the way I played, the way I started. Obviously a couple shots here and there that I need to avoid. But other than that, I felt like I did well. I started really, really well, and it was a solid day.
Q. When you're in Mexico, do you really feel the love from the fans and the crowd here?
SERGIO GARCIA: Always, yeah. Everywhere we go, but obviously Mexico for us is extra special because you feel like you're on home turf. The Mexican people make you feel like it every time I've come here. It's always a treat.
Q. When do you make of Joaco's historic 59 today out on this golf course?
SERGIO GARCIA: Yeah, amazing. Not bad for people that can't play golf anymore. We have one 58 and a 59. It's unbelievable. Like I was out there today, and I obviously started really well. I was 6-under through 8, I think, and I looked and I was like two or three shots back. I was like, what's going on?
Obviously very, very impressive the way he played. This course is not easy, even though there wasn't much wind today. It's very tight, and as soon as you miss your tee shot a little bit, it's automatic drop. It becomes very challenging.
Obviously an amazing round for him.
Q. Are you surprised to see Mr. Rahm at the top of the leaderboard with you?
SERGIO GARCIA: No, I think he's a decent player, so...
We all knew what we were getting when we signed him. Obviously he was also shooting lights out. I think he was like 7-under and had a couple bogeys to finish with. It's good to see all the good players up there.
Q. When you shoot 6-under and you're six shots back after one round and you only have 36 holes left, what's the mindset going into the weekend?
SERGIO GARCIA: There's nothing you can do. It's as simple as that. You've got to go out there, and it's not easy to shoot 6-under on this course, so don't even think about 12.
It's as simple as going out there, trying to play the best you can. That's the only thing you can do. If Joaco goes out there and shoots 3- or 4-under and 3- or 4-under on the weekend, there's nothing really to do. It's not that easy to shoot 8-, 9- or 10-under par on this course.
At the end of the day, you still have to play well. You still have to bring as much as possible to your team and hopefully do well on that aspect, too.
