Bryson DeChambeau

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Bryson DeChambeau, the captain of Crushers GC. You fired a round of 8-under today. Tell us a little bit about your round.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, it was a lot of fun today hitting the driver. I was hitting it well and was pleased with how I was hitting it. Drove it well.

Yeah, look, the golf course is gettable, but it's diabolical, as well. There was a lot of moments where I felt like I was going to get it to 9-, 10-under and there was moments where I'm like, man, I could be 3-under or 2-under easily if I don't get my act in shape, so it's a teeter-totter golf course. You can hit a drive down by the green, but it depends on the lie, depends on the flag, depends on if you can make some six-, seven-footers out here.

It was a grindy round, a lot of fun. Felt like I gave a good performance out there today.

Q. Given the altitude everyone has been wanting to talk to you this week about how far that ball is flying and how you're managing distance.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, there's a couple tight driving holes out here, No. 10 being one of them, but I can't get it up by the green. I hit it over the green, didn't make birdie on that hole. But for the most part I took advantage with the driver and got up-and-down. The 11th hole and the 13th hole, I didn't get up-and-down from those holes, but made a great par save on the par-3 after that, and on 14, and felt like I kept it together pretty well besides a three-putt on 15. That was disappointing, a disappointing wedge shot. But all in all, it's fun hitting it far. The first hole was amazing. It was a lot of fun.

Q. Every time I looked at the TV today I saw you engaging with the fans out there, giving them high fives. How much do you love the Mexican fans?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: They're amazing people, encouraging, loving, just want to support you and cheer you on and shout your name really, really loud.

Q. (Indiscernible.)

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: It's going to be wind situation dependent, but for me, I don't feel like my strategy is going to change too much, but I'm hitting the driver really well.

Q. Did you feel the course was very different from when you were here with the WGC to this time? Did the holes change a lot, the numbers? Did you feel anything different?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Well, I'm definitely hitting it a little bit farther than when I was here, the few times I was here. Patrick Reed beat me one year. I think I was hitting it pretty far then. But for the most part, it's relatively the same. It's a couple parts where it's a little softer, but I'm sure as the weekend comes, it's going to get really firm and fast. We already felt it. That back of the green on 18 there is super firm, and then I flew it over the green. But it's super firm. Watching Jon Rahm land it short and I know it's going to bounce up there, his caddie was doing something that he knew about.

But it's going to get firm and fast out here and be a lot of fun this weekend.
